Battle Angel (Immortal City #3) by Scott Speer

Release Date: 28th August 2014

Blurb:
(Don't read blurb if you haven't read the first two as it may contain spoilers!)

It's going to take a lot more than fame to save the Immortal City in its darkest hour. . . .

With Maddy torn between two loves, Guardian Jackson and heroic pilot Tom, and Angels and humans on the brink of an epic war, the Immortal City is more vulnerable than ever. And when demons descend upon Angel City with the intent to destroy, the humans don't stand a fighting chance without the Angels on their side.

Will Jacks find the strength and forgiveness to enter the fray and fight the demons as a stronger-than-ever Battle Angel? Or has the damage been so great that the Guardians will set off for the next place, abandoning Angel City in its darkest hour?

It all comes down to love-wrecked half-Angel Maddy and the strength of her bond with Jackson in this game-changing, thrice-as-sultry series finale that blends beautiful themes of redemption and renewal with heart-pounding action scenes and jaw-dropping twists.

I absolutely loved the first book in this series but I still haven't read the second one yet but I will get around to it soon as I have it on my shelf. I might leave it until this one is released as it's a long wait for this one.

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane

The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers...and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other.

I have had this book for awhile now from Netgalley but I have only just gotten around to reading it which I have no idea why as I love this series and this book is no different.

I really like this cover as it kind of goes with the rest but at the same time different. I love that it looks like they are in the backseat of a car as it is definitely in keeping with the story which is always a love of mine. I also like the main colour being red as it's a very striking colour and it just works well with the rest. I love this cover over the UK one which is nowhere near as good as this one!

Yes I did take a long time reading it and no the reason wasn't because it was bad as it quite the opposite, I just never seemed to have the time to sit down and read. This book is just as good as the others (I really can't choose a favourite as it changes all the time) with the same underlay as the others with the girl being good and the guy being the 'bad boy' but the rest is different although just as heart-breaking as the others maybe this one being even more heart-breaking. I love that McGarry has dealt with the Cancer subject which I think she handled beautifully. This book had some predictability but also there was things that happened that I just wasn't expecting which I think for me is a good blend as I always love to know what is going to happen but then I also love to be surprised. We had more of a thrilling storyline this time with all the fast cars and blackmail but also a cute romance to add to the mix.

I loved that this time it was Isaiah's turn to take the lead as I have always loved his character and wanted to know more about him. There is definitely more than meets the eye to Isaiah and I love him even more as we saw not only the 'bad boy' side to him but also a softer, romantic side which was great to see. Rachel was the new character added to this series but it just felt like she has been in the series from the beginning as I felt like we knew her inside and out. She is a really strong character but she doesn't even realise it which makes her more endearing. Like the other books we also get to see old favourites which I always love to see how they are developing even more. We also got to see a lot more new guys in the shape of Rachel's brothers which I love even if there was times when I thought they was so selfish and didn't care how Rachel was feeling.

Overall another great book in the Pushing the Limits series, if you haven't started this series you definitely should start it!

Blurb:

"Wardrobe malfunction" doesn't begin to cover it.

With a rip louder than the "I dos," Hayley's hideous bile-yellow bridesmaid dress explodes. She's always had enviable curves, but nearly naked wasn't quite the look she'd been going for at her ex's wedding.

She's rushed from the altar under the best man's designer tux jacket. Hayley's expecting a blast of icy disapproval from sexy, sophisticated Niccolò Rossi—his usual reaction to anything she does. What she gets is a kiss that nearly melts what's left of her polyester nightmare gown.

It's impossible on a million levels. Exuberant engineer Hayley and buttoned-up lawyer Nico have never seen eye to eye—but skin to skin? Oh, mio… So when Nico shows up at her flat on Christmas Day to give her a fabulous gift—himself—Hayley's delighted to do the unwrapping. But it's just a holiday fling. By New Year's Day, she'll come back to her senses…unless Nico's sensual skills tear away all her resolve.

I stumbled across this on Netgalley and though it sounded like a fun read so thought I would give it a try but not expecting to love it as much as I did.

I do like the composition of the cover which I feel makes it stand out but what I love the most is the red tie as it really does stand out.

When I fist started this book it was a bit late at night so I thought I would just read a little bit just to see if I even liked it but then just over an hour later I had finished it, yes it is a short book but it was down to the content that had me enthralled with the book. There was quite a lot of times when I was laughing out loud which I really enjoyed as I haven't read many books that are very humorous like this one was. The romance side of the story did seem a bit out of the blue but I didn't mind as you could feel the chemistry flying off the pages. One of the best novellas I have read in a long time so glad I gave it a try.

At first I wasn't sure about Hayley as who in there right mind would be a bridesmaid for an ex-boyfriend she just didn't seem right but the more we get to know her the more her humour comes out making her a great character. Nico I loved he is like all those alpha male characters we've met before but I don't care as I was really drawn to him. There was a couple of other side characters but they wasn't in it much it was mainly about these two characters and I loved them.

Overall it was a fab and fun read that I would recommend to anyone over the age of 18.

Waiting on Wednesday #11

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Here's this week's book I can't wait for...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17455811-bitter-sweet-love?ac=1

Bitter Sweet Love (The Dark Elements #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date: 1st December 2013

In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series THE DARK ELEMENTS, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.
Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything...right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.
And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again...

Seeing as this is the novella I thought I would also add the first one in this series.

White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release Date: 25th February 2014

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

I can't wait for these books they sound like they are going to be epic. Not long now for the novella but still a few more months for the first one!

Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Broken (Avena #2) by Marianne Curley

Release Date: 4th November 2014 (US date)

Blurb from Goodreads:

Following Ebony's discovery of her angelic lineage, and Nathaneal's narrow victory over Prince Luca, the two can finally enjoy their new-found love. But Ebony's friend Jordan is angry that he’s lost the girl of his dreams.

Then Prince Michael arrives from Avena to arrest Nathaneal for breaking Avena law in revealing his powers to the enemy. At last, Jordan can plant doubt in Ebony's mind about his romantic rival. Desperate to find out what happened to her adoptive parents, Ebony lets Jordan persuade her that new teacher Mr. Xavier can introduce her to her real father. Disaster follows, and Ebony finds herself at the center of another epic battle in the realm of Avena itself.

Fantastical and emotionally powerful, this angelic romance series is rapidly winning enthusiastic fans.

I really enjoyed the first book in the Avena series, Hidden. A really great Angel book that I just can't wait to continue, the only thing is we have a whole year to wait for it, so definitely a long wait.

What are you Waiting on?
