Waiting on Wednesday #5

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

It's been a while since I last did my WOW so I thought I would start joining in the fun again :)

Here's this weeks WOW:

Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

Release Date: 22nd October 2013 (This date is for hardback only, not sure when the paperback will be out)

Blurb:

One choice will define you.

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

I know that this is coming out soon but I still can't wait for it. Even though I am excited about this book I actually haven't started Insurgent but I do plan on reading it very soon so that when my copy of Allegiant arrives I can delve straight into it.

What's everyone else's WOW?

Changing Covers #4

Hi everyone welcome to my new weekly feature which all about covers that change either in the middle of the series or even when the series had finished. (The covers will mainly be UK changes but also from the USA.) I decided to do this feature as there has been so many cover changes it's hard to keep up.
I am not sure if anyone has done this particular feature so feel free to let me know so I can start linking it up to them. It is similar to other features that are out there but I'm hoping that this is different enough.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

First Published/USA                  UK

Divergent was first published in 2011 and it took me ages to find a copy here in the UK but when I did I jumped at the chance to buy it. Usually in the UK we have to get them online for the first published ones but I found mine in a shop so I didn't think anything of it until Insurgent was being released. When Insurgent was released it was a completely different cover to the one released in USA so therefore being completely different to the copy of the first book. As usual UK got a cover change and I would have ordered the one from USA but that would have been a hardcover when my first book was paperback so I ended up getting the new UK cover for the second one and left the first one as the old cover but I will eventually get that one in the new UK covers so that they match.
At first I didn't like the UK covers but now that I have a copy of Insurgent as the UK cover it's grown on me. I do still prefer the first published cover as for me it is more eye catching and plus the UK cover has a bird on them and I don't like birds.

That is what I think of this weeks cover change. What do you think of this series cover change? Let me know in the comments below.

Book Review: Divergent (Divergent #1)

Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

Format: Paperback
Publishers: HarperCollins Children's Books
Published: 3rd May 2011
Pages: 487
Main Characters: Tris, Four
Date Started: 28th April 2012
Date Finished: 1st May 2012
Rating Given: *****

Blurb from Goodreads:

Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

It took me ages to actually get this book but when I did get it, it took me awhile to get around to reading it. I think that has something to do with that when I look forward to a book but then takes me ages to get it I end up not liking it but in this case I loved it and wish I never took so long to reading it.

To be honest with you all the cover is what first drew me into this book before everyone was rating about it so I am kind of glad I recieved this version but I have now found out that us UK lot have a different version which I don't like as much. I am really glad I didn't see that version first as I might not have been as willing to read the book but now it has grown on me I will have to get the UK version so that it matches the Insurgent version!

I kind of had a feeling when I started to read this book that it would be a five star book as I got into it straight away and that has only happened to books that I rate five stars. I also got what was happening and understood the book which in some dystopian books I get confused but then there are others which I get straight away and this was one of them. The style of the writing that Roth used was easily understood and descriptive so that I could actually picture the surroundings.

There was so many things going on in this book that it kept me entertained the whole way through my thoughts never strayed away from the book (which I sometimes do). I loved the whole build up to what we all probably had a feeling was going to happen. It was a action packed last couple of pages that kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked that the ending wasn't too much of a cliff-hanger but enough of one to make me want to read the next book pronto so I am glad that it's out this week not much of a wait for me.

The two main characters Tris and Four I just loved. Tris starts off with me thinking that she is a bit of a soft touch but by the end she is a strong fighter. Even though she seemed a bit of a weakling I still warmed to her from the moment the book starts and then as she grows as a person makes me like her all the more. Four from the beginning captured my heart even though he starts off a bit too harsh I just couldn't help but fall in love with his character especially when we see what he's been/going through. The interaction between these two was great to witness even if at times they where a bit mean towards each other you could still see the attraction simmering under the surface. There was some other side characters that I really liked but then there was others which where just plain evil.

Overall a stunning debut from Veronica Roth I can't wait to read more from her especially this series as it is just plain and simply AWESOME!!

BOTM #7

Here's the books that I read in April 2012:
  • Mortal Kiss by Alice Moss
  • Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan
  • Immortal City by Scott Speer
  • Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
  • Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
  • Endure by Carrie Jones
  • Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
  • A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
And the book of the month goes too...

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Another hard month of books to choose from as there was quite a few five star books but in the end the winner could only go to this book. The reason why it had to be this one was because I loved it so much and I couldn't put it down but when I had to put it down I was thinking about it even during my Zumba class!
A very addicting book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Divergent was actually finished today so no review at the minute but one will be coming very soon.

At the minute I just can't seem to get into this book it's both confusing and slow but I have only read the first 30 pages so I just need to stick it out and maybe it will get better. It probably didn't help that I was reading another book that I was really in to but I have finished that now so I can try and spend some time reading this.
