Changing Covers #16

Hi everyone welcome to my new weekly feature which all about covers that change either in the middle of the series or even when the series had finished. (The covers will mainly be UK changes but also from the USA.) I decided to do this feature as there has been so many cover changes it's hard to keep up.
I am not sure if anyone has done this particular feature so feel free to let me know so I can start linking it up to them. It is similar to other features that are out there but I'm hoping that this is different enough.

Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready

Another series that I have no idea which was published first or even where they was published but there was a few different versions of the cover that I thought I would share them with you.
There isn't much difference in these books they all have a purple (which I like) tone going on in the background even if it's ever so slightly.
The first and the third covers look to be almost exactly the same just a bit more cropped and the title has been moved but apart from that they are the same so I don't understand why the changes where made.At least the other two have more of a change I think if your going to change your cover it should be exactly that a change. I love the hint of red in these two books as the rest is purple so without the red I think it would have been boring.
The second book I really don't like as it just doesn't stand out like the other books do it just seems a bit too plain.
The last book is the most different but I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I do like that it has more colours but I'm not sure about the way in which they have been used works.
Out of all these cover My favourite would have to be number three as it has more tones in it and it looks more finished than the others do.

What's your thoughts on these cover changes?

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

With these cover changes I haven't been able to find out which was published first as it looks as though they was all published around the same year.
I actually hadn't known about this book until last year when someone from Waterstones recommended it which was the white cover and it was only recently that I found out there have been a few covers for it.
The first two are pretty much similar in the way the red flows across the cover as well as the font. The third cover is very different to the others with a completely different font and background.
My favourite cover would have to be the first one as I love the simplicity of it with only a few colours which I think makes the title stand out more than the second one does. Although the second cover has some buildings on it which would help me visualize the location of the book. My least favourite would have to be the last one as it reminds me of a star sign guide which for all I know that could be what it is supposed to be portraying but I haven't read the book yet but I still don't like it.

What is everyone else's thoughts on these cover changes let me know in the comments below.

Marked by P.C & Kristin Cast

1st Edition                  2nd Edition                 3rd Edition

I think the 1st edition book is the hardback version and the second edition was the paperback. There may not be much of a change between the first and second edition covers but the subtle changes that have been used has improved the cover loads. Out of the first two I prefer the second one as I prefer the font and I love that the patterns are more noticeable. I also like the was the eye shines in the second cover as I think it really does capture me.
Just recently it had another cover change and to be honest with you I'm still not sure whether I like it I think I need to see it in person before I can make my mind up. I love the colour in the background and the way the title looks like it's shining. I'm not sure about the girl as I just don't think it looks right but I do like that she is in the shadows as I feel that is what the character feels like. I also like the way the title of the actual series has a moon around it.
Overall I think at the minute my favourite is the second edition book but this could change if and when I make my mind up on the third edition cover.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

1st Edition               2nd Edition

Usually I know if either are just US covers or are the UK covers but this time I don't know I think these are for both although I'm pretty sure the 1st edition wasn't in the UK stores only online but I'm not 100% sure on this so please let me know if you have any ideas.

When I first saw this book it was the 1st edition cover and I really liked it but it wasn't until I got a copy that made me love the cover as I loved the metallic look of it. I really liked the background as I love the effect of it. I also really liked the font of the title as it ties in with what the title is saying.
Then I saw there was a new cover and I immediately fell in love with, I know there are a lot of people that don't like it but I'm a fan. I love the way the eyelashes look like they were painted but then bleed it looks so effective. I also love the colours around the eye/lashes and the colour of the eye is very piercing.
For me there is no contest the 2nd edition cover is my favourite but the only I do prefer on the other cover is the font of the title as I think it's more eye catching.

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

1st edition US               1st edition UK               2nd edition UK

When I first stumbled on this book was when it was just the 1st edition from the US which looked striking enough for me to want to put it on my wish list. It wasn't until I saw UK bloggers getting a different cover that I knew we had a different cover, again! I love the way that the US cover looks like it's been torn with the colour coming from inside it looks effective I hope that is a sign of what I am to expect. At first I wasn't so sure about the 1st edition UK cover as I really liked the US cover but once I got my copy I fell in love with it.The texture on the first edition UK was one of the reasons why it grew on me and then the font also had a different texture (I am very much a book texture girl).
When I went shopping I had to look at the books which is how I came across the cover change for the UK copy. I didn't understand the cover change as it is pretty much the same as the first UK cover but with different colours and the face inside the title which I do like that effect so now I'm not to sure which I prefer as I like them all.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

US (HB)         UK (HB)               UK(PB)

With these cover changes I'm not so sure I have a favourite as they are all beautiful in their own way and I don't think any of them should have been changed.
Usually here in the UK the books usually go straight to paperback so I was surprised when I saw the hardback copy and I didn't actually know until I went on Goodreads that this wasn't the hardback the US had.
I love the colours on each of the covers, I love the blue against the black and white on the US cover but I also love the purple tones on the UK hardback (which looks even better up close) and I also love the red on the UK paperback copy as it adds a bit of danger.
What you can't tell on the UK paperback copy is that there is more detail in the actual cover that you can't see properly but let me tell you it looks effective.
I also love the font of each of the titles although the two UK covers are pretty much the same but the US cover is different and I love the Daughter Of part of the font as it looks elegant.
I have no idea if any of these covers are tied into the actual story as I haven't read the book yet but that will change soon as I have a copy of the paperback copy which again looks better in person.

So that's my thoughts on these cover changes, let me know in the comments below of your thoughts on these covers.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Hardcopy (US)              UK Edition 1        UK Edition2

When this first came out I loved the cover but then realized this wasn't the edition us in the UK was getting I was disappointed especially after I saw it. Then this year (2013) they have gone an had a change of cover and this time I am so happy that they changed it.
I love the colours on both the Hardcover copy and the second UK copy as they have both kept the some kind of tones in there covers which I know the first UK edition has kept the same tones but not as much as the others. Also the two that I like have also got the use of the title especially the second UK cover which I like when the title can tie in with the cover. (I haven't read this book yet so I don't know if the cover ties in with the actual story.)
Out of all three my least favourite is the first UK cover as the illustration just doesn't work and I just don't lie it.
Out of the three my favourite cover has to be the second UK cover as the font of the title grabs my attention over the other two.

So that's my thoughts on this cover changes let me know in the comments below what your thoughts on this cover changes are.

First Published               UK Published

Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz

With these covers they have not long since changed and when I first saw Spellbound I really liked the cover, however when I received it I wasn't sure about it as it looked a bit empty. When I saw that us in the UK was getting a new cover at first I wasn't happy (as that was back when I never had a copy) but when I saw the cover I really liked it. I love the dress and the way it has been positioned as it adds the look of texture which I love. I also like the way that there is a background which I feel the first published book lacks. I feel that both of the covers tie in well with the actual story which I like when the covers do that.
Overall I do like both of the covers but I just prefer the overall look of the new UK book.

So that's my thoughts on this cover change, what do you think? Do you agree with me? Or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments below.

          Hardback                    Paperback 1           Paperback 2

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

With this set of book cover changes I'm not actually sure which was first published and which is the latest the only one I know is the hardback. I love the hardback edition as at first glance it just looks simple with a plain background and then the title but when you look closely you can see a face in the title which I think looks so effective. The other two you can actually see the faces but you can't see all of them. I don't really understand why the paperbacks have been changed especially when they are pretty much the same idea. With the Paperback 1 I love the colours and my eye is immediately drawn to the title. With Paperback 2 I'm drawn to the eyes but with the title being just beneath it also makes the title stand out. Out of all of these cover changes I prefer the hardback which I have a copy of I just haven't read it yet so I don't know if there is any relevance to the story if any.

So that's my thoughts on Deliriums cover changes. Let me know what you think, do you agree? or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments below.

First Published                 Second Published              New Cover

Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

With this book the first published cover was completely different to the first published paperback. I don't like when that happens it would have been better to have the same cover once in paperback like other books sometimes do. Then it is changed again but I think that that is more to do with it being a UK paperback which sometimes ours changes to other covers that are out else where.
Out of the three my favourite it the first published cover as it's stunning and definitely one of my favourite ever covers. The only thing is if I had gotten the first one the others in this series wouldn't match as they are more like the second one and the new one in the UK. I do kind of like the new cover which is the one that I have but it just doesn't have the same impact as the first one. The second one is my least favourite and does actually put me of reading the series so in this case I am glad that ours is different. I just wish they didn't mess with this series covers it wasn't necessary.

So that's my thoughts on this ever changing covers. What's your thoughts? Do you agree? or disagree? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Beastly by Alex Flinn

First Published (2007)    Film Tie In (2011)        New (2012)

This book was first released way back in 2007 and I actually really liked the cover but it wasn't until a film was released until it changed into the tie in. I don't really like the tie in cover as I don't imagine the beast looking like that and I think in the book he never either so to change the cover to that was not necessary. Then this year it has been changed again probably because it's been made into a series so it needed to match. The only thing is I have the first published cover so now my series won't match, however, I do love the new covers so I will most likely get those especially seeing as the new one is a deluxe edition with Lindy's Diary in it plus my copy is a bit battered as I keep reading it. I love that both the first edition and the new one have the same style font as I love the font as it's in keeping with the story and even the Disney version. I do love the simplicity of the first edition but my eye keeping going to the new one.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

First Published                New UK                     Latest Edition

Here in the UK we had the same cover that was used for the first published which I kind of liked especially the colours it made it look like it was out in the universe which was very fitting. Then when the next book was released it was the same as the New UK cover which I didn't mind so much as only the first one was released so it made it a lot easier to get the one new cover than a whole new series. I do like the New UK covers but I think I may prefer the First Published cover. Then there was another book cover change and this time I don't like it at all the other two a far better than the Latest Edition. It really does annoy me when the publishers change the covers but when they keep changing them it's even more annoying can't they just stick to the original it would be a lot easier for us readers and a lot cheaper!

These are my thoughts on this cover that keeps on changing. What are your thoughts do you agree with me? or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments below.

Divergent by Veronica Roth

First Published/USA                  UK

Divergent was first published in 2011 and it took me ages to find a copy here in the UK but when I did I jumped at the chance to buy it. Usually in the UK we have to get them online for the first published ones but I found mine in a shop so I didn't think anything of it until Insurgent was being released. When Insurgent was released it was a completely different cover to the one released in USA so therefore being completely different to the copy of the first book. As usual UK got a cover change and I would have ordered the one from USA but that would have been a hardcover when my first book was paperback so I ended up getting the new UK cover for the second one and left the first one as the old cover but I will eventually get that one in the new UK covers so that they match.
At first I didn't like the UK covers but now that I have a copy of Insurgent as the UK cover it's grown on me. I do still prefer the first published cover as for me it is more eye catching and plus the UK cover has a bird on them and I don't like birds.

That is what I think of this weeks cover change. What do you think of this series cover change? Let me know in the comments below.

First Published            Old UK                  New UK

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

When this series was first published it had a completely different look and I didn't like it I wish the new UK covers where released first as I much prefer them. Here in the UK there was a offer for the first one when you bought a different book so I jumped at the chance but then they changed the covers here in the UK (Old UK) but I wasn't too fussed about that as they didn't look that different. The when the last one came out and it was completely different I was gutted as I thought they could have at least waited until they was all released before changing them because now the last book in this series sticks out like a sore thumb!
I think that I will try and get the red covers eventually as they are my favourite but I think this won't happen for a few years yet unless there is an offer on them.

So that's my thoughts on these cover changes. Do you agree? or do you prefer the older one? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

UK (Old)            UK (New)          Film Tie-in

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

With this series it took me a long time before I even wanted to read this series and that has everything to do with not liking the old UK covers. I just found them ugly and I know your not supposed to judge a book by it's cover but I did (still do) and it wasn't until everyone kept telling me to read this series that I finally caved. I am glad I did cave but once the series was finished and I had them all they go and change the covers which I much prefer. The new UK covers are simple but beautiful I wish I had these covers and I probably will get them at some point. Although now that the films are coming out they go and change them again to tie in with the film but I do love this particular one as it's more eye catching. With only one film out at the moment the other covers are yet to change but if they are anything like this tie in one then I will probably get these versions.

So that's my thoughts on this series cover changes, what do you think? Do you agree with me? Or do you disagree? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Old (UK)                              New (UK)

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

So my first post has to be one of my favourite books it just made sense.
The blue cover was the cover that us in the UK was first cover that we had and continued into the next book, however when the third book came out it was completely different and was more like the one next to the blue cover. I never realized the change as I ordered the hardback copy as the UK wasn't going to come out for awhile after and I needed it right away so I knew it was going to be different. I just wasn't expecting them all to be changed and to be honest I have only just realized this! (I'm not the most observant person)
I do love both versions but my favourite has to be the old UK version and I would have liked to have seen the other books in this way. From this picture you can't tell but with the actual book the old UL version has a metallic finish to it which I think makes it stand out more. The new covers do look more dramatic which I guess is needed for a dramatic series.
I have a feeling that once the film comes out there will be another cover change!

What do you think do you agree? or disagree?
