BOTM #10

Last month I did a vlog version but I don't think it translated well but I will maybe do more of a wrap up vlog for just my YouTube channel.
Here's the books that I read in July:
  • Blood Moon by Alyxandra Harvey ****
  • Shattered Dreams by Ellie James ****
  • Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan ***
  • Otherkin by Nina Berry ***
  • Taken By Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes *****
  • Burn by Heath Gibson **
  • Revived by Cat Patrick ****
  • Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry *****
I didn't read as many as I did last month but what I did read for the most I enjoyed and found it very hard to pick as you can tell I read two five stars books but in the end there was only one winner for me and the Book Of The Month in July goes too...

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry

I have not long since finished it and only reviewed it yesterday it's as if I saved the best until last as this book just shone it was brilliant and I highly recommend this book to anyone who hasn't read it. Click on the image to take you to Goodreads and click HERE for my review.

A side note: Not sure how much I'm going to get read this week as I am off into hospital tomorrow which I could be in and out or could be in for a couple of days. I don't know how much blogging I will be doing this week I only know for sure I won't be posting tomorrow so bare with me and I will be back as soon as possible.

Book Review: Burn

Burn by Heath Gibson

Format: e-arc
Publisher: Flux
Published: 8th August 2012
Pages: 264
Main Characters: William, Steven, Samantha
Date Started: 15th July 2012
Date Finished: 19th July 2012
Rating Given: **

Blurb from Netgalley:

William Tucker loves being a volunteer firefighter (maybe it's no coincidence that a pastor's son would enjoy saving people). And after he rescues his crush, Mandy Pearman, she undergoes a profound transformation for the better. In fact, it seems like a lot of good comes from the embers of tragedy in his small Alabama town. William may not be able to meet his father's expectations, force his mother to ditch the gin, or protect his gay brother, but for those who need a second chance at life, William isn't afraid to light the match-and become the hero the town needs.

I think when I first requested this book I thought it was going to be something completely different, well that teaches me not to read the synopsis.

The cover I love this is most likely the reason why I wanted to read this book as it looks so mysterious which is what I like my books to involve. I love the fire in the background as I think that fire can have some beautiful colours which is what this cover portrays. The cover is in keeping with the story but I wish the story was as intriguing as the cover sadly for me that wasn't the case.

This was the first time I had heard of Heath Gibson and although I am not a fan of this book I won't let it put me off reading his other books he might bring out in the future. I do like the fact that he wrote about some very strong issues but I do feel like they where glossed over maybe if he went into more depth I would have liked it a bit more.

I personally didn't like this book and my reason behind that was because I found that the next chapter had gone onto something completely different to what was being talked about at the end of the previous chapter and sometimes it was a different day with nothing being explained. When I read the last page of this book I was left I was left in complete shock not only with the way in which it ended but I felt nothing was cleared up I was more confused when I finished than while I was reading it.

The characters I'm not too sure on as sometimes I liked them and got where they was coming from and then other times I couldn't stand them. William or as he is better known as 'Wee Wee' is the male lead character is a small boy (hence the nickname) is a volunteer firefighter who just wants to be accepted. I do feel sorry for him as he has a lot he has to put up with but there was times when I thought he needed to understand where his brother was coming from. As for his brother Steven he seemed like a nice enough boy but I did feel he was a bit too pushy. Samantha seemed a bit angry to start with but by the end she did seem nice. Other characters I felt just went missing as they would be in the story but then they wouldn't be in it any more leaving me thinking what happened to them.

Overall I was left confused about what actually happened with the characters as well as the actual story but there was occasions when it was an alright book.

Teaser Tuesday #31

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teasers:

Taken By Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

"What happened in that house wasn't a clean kill." Caroline shook her head. "It wasn't even an animal one."
"What was it?" Lake asked, her voice strained and high.
Caroline didn't answer, so I did, on her behalf.
"That," I said, shivering in the night and drawing what little warmth I could from Chase's body, "was retribution." - Page 121
It was hard to find any quotes that didn't give too much away but I decided this one left you all guessing. I am really enjoying this book and by far the best in this series.

Her eyes bounce from me to Daddy like she wants him to join in. But like the rest of us, he just wants to eat. His silent refusal to participate pisses her off. She slams her hand down on the table hard enough to make the silverware jump. "You're supposed to honour me. That's what it says."
I slide my chair back and pick up my plate. "Mom, I guess it all depends on your definition."  - Page 22
Not read much of this book so had to pick an early quote so not as interesting as what it might actually be. (Arc copy so quote may differ to final book).

I am just over halfway through this book and I am really enjoying it as loads of things are happening that I just never expected.

Burn by Heath Gibson
Only read a few chapters so I'm not too sure about what I think of it. It has started good enough and very intriguing I just wish it would pick up pace.

Reading Next

Revived by Cat Patrick

Semi-Charmed Life by Nora Zelevansky

Both these books sound really good so I do hope they live up to my expectations.

So that's hopefully my reading plan for this coming week. Leave me links to your week of reading and I will come take a look :)

Only read the first few chapters but it has started off well although I am still not liking Waverly but maybe that will change once I have read a bit more.

Otherkin by Nina Berry
As you may have realised I have been reading this book for well over a week now and this isn't because it's a bad book, as I do kind of like it now, I just prefer reading my hard copies rather than the ones on my laptop.

I am hoping to read this book as soon as I finish Otherkin which I do hope will be this week.

I do love this series but for some reason it has took me a little while to get into it. Now that I am into it I love it just as much as the previous books in this series.

Otherkin by Nina Berry
I am not liking this book in fact there is too much going on that I just don't get what is going on. I am hoping it will settle down soon.

Not heard too much about these books so I don't know what to expect from them.

So that's what I am planning on reading this week, what's on your reading plan?

In My Mailbox #21

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme that is hosted by The Story Siren. This is where we show what we have either bought or was given throughout the week gone by.

Here's my books that I received this week.

Fated by Alyson Noel
I received this as a swap from RISI, I did try and get it to review but I never heard back so I jumped at the chance to swap one of my books for this one and I can't wait to read it.

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
I was so happy to receive a review copy of Struck from Random House Children's Publishers. I love the cover so much that I hope I love the story just as much.

Witchstruck by Victoria Lamb
I was also sent this by Random House Publishers, although I didn't know I was getting this one as I never asked for it but I am glad I have got it as it does sound like the kind of book I would like to read.

Also I got a few galley's from Netgally

The Watchers by Jon Steele

The City's Son by Tom Pollock

That's what I received, what did you receive in your mailbox?
