Synopsis:
The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.
Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren’t his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets,. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.
Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.
Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they’re on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

I was given a review copy via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I do like this cover as I love the use of colour but also the overlay of different pictures really works well but for some reason I prefer the American cover as I prefer to see more of the model and he looks better in that one (yes I know you can't see all of the face but the bit you can looks better on the other version).

Having only read one other book by Samantha Young that I enjoyed but didn't love I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I shouldn't have been worried, this book has to go down as one of my favourites of the year so far and I would even go as far as saying one of my all time favourite books. I absolutely hated having to put it down and when I had grudgingly done so I couldn't stop thinking about it and now I've finished it I already want to read it again because I keep remembering how much I loved it. The only thing that I would loved even more about this book was if we got to hear some things from Caine's side as I love an alternating pov as then we get a better understanding of what everyone's thinking and I definitely want to know Caine's thoughts on his actions. The actual overall plot of the book was a bit dark however some of the dialogue was so funny that I kept laughing out loud which was a much needed light relief giving it the perfect balance. The chemistry between Caine and Alexa was smoking hot they just sizzled when in the same room even when he pretends he hates her but then with certain actions he shows that he loves her really. There was a few twists and turns in this book that I never saw coming but I did say to myself that something major needs to happen before Caine admits to anything but I still didn't see what was to come towards the end half of the book. The ending was a brilliant end to this book because everything was cleared up and the epilogue was a few years into the future which I always love and I especially loved what had happened.

I loved pretty much all the characters even when I found it hard at times I just couldn't help myself. Alexa was a great female character and it was pretty much her whit that had me laughing out loud. She was flawed but her past had made her so but I didn't mind this because even when everything was going against her she still had a smile on her face. You would think that I would hate Caine as he was very annoying at times even mean but you wouldn't be more wrong as I loved him. His childhood was awful and he was definitely scarred on the inside which made me feel so sorry for him but there was times when with Alexa that brought out his sweet and soft side but also his funny side. There was a few side characters that I loved as well especially Effie she was brilliant.

Overall an amazing story that I would highly recommend to anyone this book was pure class!
