Goodreads:
Tempest Maguire wants nothing more than to surf the killer waves near her California home; continue her steady relationship with her boyfriend, Mark; and take care of her brothers and surfer dad. But Tempest is half mermaid, and as her seventeenth birthday approaches, she will have to decide whether to remain on land or give herself to the ocean like her mother. The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her-and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.

I haven't read many books that are about mermaids but the one I did read recently was Forgive my Fins and I loved it so I wanted to try more books about mermaids which is how I found out about this book.

The concept of this book was what interested me in this particular book but I found that that was the main thing that did interest me about this book.

I found it slow in places but the parts that something was actually going on was really good which, there was quite a few moments which was why it got the 3 stars as otherwise it would have only gotten 2.

I found Tempest an annoying character who was very selfish I just could not warm to her character and therefor didn't really care what happened to her. There was flashes of a good character especially her relationship between her and her Father and Brothers as you could really tell the love with each of them and I wish there was more of this shown in the book. Although she wasn't always thinking of her family just how she was suffering as if they do not feel what she does.

I did like Kai's character he was sweet to Tempest (although she didn't always treat him the same way but that could have been because of Marc). I would liked to have seen more growth between Tempest and Kai's relationship as it just came on suddenly for him but I did like her growth of feelings towards him and I am looking forward to reading more about these two as a couple in the next book.

Although I didn't absolutely love this book I will read the next book to see if it gets better with this book being the set-up.

  1. I hope it will improve with the sequel. I was very curious about this book too, it's interesting to have something a little different.
