The Other Side of Gravity (Oxygen, #1) by Shelly Crane - 15th March
My name is Maxton and I’m a trader.
I live on a soulless planet where gravity, oxygen, and everything else are sold to the highest bidder on the black market. People are sold on the black market, too. You have to work really hard not to become one of those people. Pay your taxes, keep your friends and family close, and more than anything else—don’t get caught by the Militia. But all the rules changed for me the day I found her.
My name is Sophelia and I’m a stowaway.
I’ve been a slave for almost as long as I can remember. Waiting for the one day, one second, for my proprietor to turn his head so I could run and never look back. Now I'm on the run. And on a planet where no one is on your side and people would turn you in for a good meal or a piece of a silver, being on the run on Landu is the last place you want to be. Until he found me.
I won't survive without him.
I can't breathe without her.

Book Review: Firelight (Firelight #1)

Firelight (Firelight #1) by Sophie Jordan

Format: Paperback
Publisher: OUP Oxford
Published: 3rd March 2011
Pages: 272
Main Characters: Jacinda, Will, Tamra
Date Started: 1st December 2011
Date Finished: 4th December 2011
Rating Given: ****

Goodreads:
 A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defence is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

One of the reasons why I wanted to read this was because everyone kept raving about it so, I obviously got curious so I went away and tried to find it and it took such a long time until I could actually get it so, that got me looking forward to reading it even more. Can you believe after reading that short introduction that it took me a couple more months to actually get around to reading it!

When I finally read it I found I really enjoyed it.

I haven't read many books that are a descendant from dragon's so it was kind of a new concept for me. I did find the beginning was able to grab me straight away as there was a chase so it kept you on the edge of your seat and I love a book that can do that to me.

I did get a little confused with the back story at first but once you get further and further into the book things get explained so it does get less confusing.

I didn't always like Jacinda as sometimes I agreed with her but then other times I just wanted to shake her but that was only a couple of times. I did find her quite a strong person as some of the things that she goes through only a strong character can handle. I am looking forward to see if she can still stay a strong character in the next book I have a feeling that things are going to get even worse.

I loved Will straight although you know there is something not quite right you just have to love him and as the book goes on I just love him all the more. I hope we get to see more of him in the next book.

Jacinda's mum and sister Tamra I didn't like all the time because I seemed to agree with Jacinda more often than not your family should love you for who you are. I do understand their mum more as she just wants her daughter's safe but I do Tamra a little bit selfish.

The whole part where Jacinda manifests is explained very well as I can just imagine what is happening to her. Out of the few Draki's that we see Jacinda sounds the most like an actual dragon.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read what is going to happen with everyone in the books to come. Great start to a series!
