Book Tag: The Book Courtship Tag

The Reading Pile has taken inspiration from the vloging Book Tag community over to the blogging world. Like her I'm not actually going to tag anyone but you're more than welcome to give it a try like I have just head over to her page and leave a link in her comments or in mine as I'm nosey and love to know what everyone else has done.

Over at The Reading Pile she has done the posts every Thursday and has already done a few so I thought I would go through the ones she has already done and do the ones I like the look of.

My Book Tag post this week is: The Book Courtship

Phase One - Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover
Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick - From the very first moment I saw this book I fell in love with it and jut had to have it. I'm just glad the story was as stunning as the cover.

Phase Two - First Impression: A book that you got because of the summary
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I hated the cover for this book but because of the summery I decided to buy it as it sounded so good. Below is the summery to see for yourselves.

Winning means fame and fortune.
Losing means certain death.
The Hunger Games have begun....

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, the shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-- and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Phase Three - Sweet Talk: A book with great writing
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - I don't usually take notice of the different writing styles only what I like or dislike in the actual story, that was until I read Shatter Me. Shatter Me has a very unique writing style that jumps off the pages. It's easy to love this book just because of the great writing.

Phase Four - First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pursue the rest of the series
Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles - I've read so many first in the series books that have made me want to read the rest of the series, so it was hard to choose one. In the end I went for Perfect Chemistry as I haven't used this book in previous book tag posts. I absolutely adored this book that I just had to get the rest and I'm so glad about a fourth book on the horizon.

Phase Five - Late Night Phone Calls: A book that kept you up all night long
Beastly by Alex Flinn - I don't really read books if I'm tired so no book can keep me up all night even if I wanted to, however, Beastly was such a quick and easy book to read that I read it in a day.

Phase Six - Always on my mind: A book that you could not stop thinking about
Come Back To Me by Mila Gray - I absolutely adored this book and it was a book that brought all the feels. For some books I forget what happened and just remember if I loved or hated it but with this book I remember everything about it. Even a year after reading this book I still find myself thinking about it.

Phase Seven - Getting Physical: A book in which you love the way it feels
Talon by Julie Kagawa - I usually love the feel of velvety book covers but there is a lot of those on my shelf so in the end I went for Talon. The reason why I went for this one was because all those scales on the cover is raised so when you run your hand over it feels as though there are scales. I haven't read this book yet but I know that when I do I will be stroking it whilst reading it.

Phase Eight - Meeting the Parents: A book in which you would recommend to your friends and family

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - CoB will always be one I would recommend to everyone I even got my family reading it.

Phase Nine - Thinking About the Future: A book or series that you know you'll reread many times in the future
Suddenly Royal by Nichole Chase - This has to be with out a doubt one of my all time favourite book. I loved every minute of this book and I have already reread it and I know I will be reading this one over and over again. I love this book that much that I could have said this book for every phase in this book tag.

Waiting on Wednesday - Mirrored by Alex Flinn

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here's this week's book I can't wait for...

Mirrored by Alex Flinn
Expected Publication: 15th September 2015

Synopsis:A modern, multi-generational tale of Kendra, the witch from "Snow White," who trains Violet, an ugly, lonely, and heartbroken girl in the 1980s who transforms herself into "the fairest one of all" but still cannot win Greg's heart, and Celine, Greg's daughter with Violet's high school rival, Jennifer.

I've read two of Alex Flinn's retelling books which I enjoyed especially Beastly so I'm looking forward to read a retelling of Snow White.

What are you waiting on?

  • The Rising (The Painted Maidens, #1) by Terra Harmony - 2.5/5
  • Existence (Existence, #1) by Abbi Glines - 3.5/5
  • Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire - 5/5
  • Private Air by Billie Bates - 2/5
  • Her Best Laid Plans by Cara McKenna - 4/5
  • Juilliard or Else by Nichele Reese - 3.5/5

  • Pregame by Taylor Wade - 4.5/5
  • A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn - 3.5/5
  • The Haunted (MacKinnon Curse, #2) by J.A. Templeton - 5/5
And the book of the month is...

I had a few 5/5 books this month but when looking through them there was no other book that I could choose from that was better than Beautiful Disaster. I really enjoyed this book it is definitely up there with my all time favourites and I can't wait to read it from Travis's POV which I am hopefully reading in April!

Blurb:
Talia fell under a spell...Jack broke the curse.
I was told to beware the accursed spindle, but it was so enchanting, so hypnotic...
I was looking for a little adventure the day I ditched my tour group. But finding a comatose town, with a hot-looking chick asleep in it, was so not what I had in mind.
I awakened in the same place but in another time—to a stranger's soft kiss.
I couldn't help kissing her. Sometimes you just have to kiss someone. I didn't know this would happen.
Now I am in dire trouble because my father, the king, says I have brought ruin upon our country. I have no choice but to run away with this commoner!
Now I'm stuck with a bratty princess and a trunk full of her jewels...The good news: My parents will freak!
Think you have dating issues? Try locking lips with a snoozing stunner who turns out to be 316 years old. Can a kiss transcend all—even time?

I have had this book on my book shelf for a very long time now and I have only just gotten around to reading it but I was a little bit disappointed...

I love this cover in the way that it is simply done yet it is still effective. I love that it goes with my Beastly cover even though they are not a part of a series they still both are retellings so they will look good together.

I knew as soon as I started this book that I wasn't going to love it as much as I did Beastly, but it did get better the more I read the book. It was really slow and didn't really pick up until at least halfway through and then there wasn't any real action until closer to the end. I loved the way in which the beginning of the story was more of a fairytale in the way it was unrealistic but then the second half was more realistic of today's society which was a perfect blend of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty and the modern retelling. The romance side of the story I thought was going to feel rushed but by halfway through it felt more like they grew to love one another. I have mixed feelings with the ending as it wasn't the classic happy ever after that we all know and love in the fairytales we grew up with but more of a updated modern version.

The main reason why I was disappointed with this book was because of the way the characters where in the beginning. Talia started of a spoilt brat and very self indulgent but about halfway through she seemed to have grown into a better person who cared about other people and was really kind. I wasn't expecting the spoilt brat version as in all of the fairytales that I love the female characters are usually like Talia ended up being like. Jack was another self centred character but like Talia he proved to be just as caring and likeable.

Overall this is no Beastly but a good read in the end.

Changing Covers #6

Hi everyone welcome to my new weekly feature which all about covers that change either in the middle of the series or even when the series had finished. (The covers will mainly be UK changes but also from the USA.) I decided to do this feature as there has been so many cover changes it's hard to keep up.
I am not sure if anyone has done this particular feature so feel free to let me know so I can start linking it up to them. It is similar to other features that are out there but I'm hoping that this is different enough.

Beastly by Alex Flinn

First Published (2007)    Film Tie In (2011)        New (2012)

This book was first released way back in 2007 and I actually really liked the cover but it wasn't until a film was released until it changed into the tie in. I don't really like the tie in cover as I don't imagine the beast looking like that and I think in the book he never either so to change the cover to that was not necessary. Then this year it has been changed again probably because it's been made into a series so it needed to match. The only thing is I have the first published cover so now my series won't match, however, I do love the new covers so I will most likely get those especially seeing as the new one is a deluxe edition with Lindy's Diary in it plus my copy is a bit battered as I keep reading it. I love that both the first edition and the new one have the same style font as I love the font as it's in keeping with the story and even the Disney version. I do love the simplicity of the first edition but my eye keeping going to the new one.

That's my thoughts on these cover changes, do you agree? or disagree? let me know in the comments below.

In My Mailbox #17

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme that is hosted by The Story Siren. This is where we show what we have either bought or was given throughout the week gone by.

I ordered these books last week and arrived Monday as one of them was a pre-order.

A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

I have been after this for quite some time now so when I had some vouchers to spend I thought I would look to see how much it was and at only £3.99 I had to snap it up. I am very much looking forward to this as I have read Beastly and it's now one of my favourites so I am hoping this will go the same way.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Again I have been after this for awhile mainly on netgalley but I kept getting turned down which made me want to read it all the more and then when it kept getting great reviews I just knew I had to get it with my vouchers. I just hope its worth the wait!

I also got a couple of books for review.

Chose Ones by Tiffany Truitt

I see this cover on Goodreads and I fell in love with it so I just had to see if I could get a review copy of it. Which I received a e-arc copy of it from Danielle Barclay over at Entangled Publishing. I am really looking forward to reading this book lets hope its as good as the cover.

Torn by Amanda Hocking

I received this in the post the other day and at the time I had no idea where it came from as I knew I hadn't asked to review it (although I wanted to) and I never ordered it. When I emailed Jessica Preeg over at St. Martin's Press (who had sent me the first to review) I found out that because I reviewed the first one I get to review Torn as well and I for one can't wait!

I also got a couple of galley's from Netgalley

Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan

Shayla Witherwood: A Half-Farie Tale by Tamra Torero
