BOTM #7

Here's the books that I read in April 2012:
  • Mortal Kiss by Alice Moss
  • Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan
  • Immortal City by Scott Speer
  • Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
  • Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
  • Endure by Carrie Jones
  • Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
  • A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
And the book of the month goes too...

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Another hard month of books to choose from as there was quite a few five star books but in the end the winner could only go to this book. The reason why it had to be this one was because I loved it so much and I couldn't put it down but when I had to put it down I was thinking about it even during my Zumba class!
A very addicting book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Divergent was actually finished today so no review at the minute but one will be coming very soon.

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
Not that far into it as of yet but it was a bit of a slow start and now I am getting more and more into it. I just hope this can continue to improve.

Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
Again not that far into this book but it has been confusing to start with. The further I get into it starts making more sense which then leads me to enjoy it.

Endure by Carrie Jones
The final book in this particular series which I am really looking forward to reading so I can finally find out how its all going to end.

Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
Not sure why I picked this book from netgalley but I'm going to give it a try anyway maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

That's what I am reading this week, what are you planning on reading?

Book Review: Gift

Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan

Format: e-arc
Publishers: Open Road Media
Published: 27th March 2012
Pages: N/A
Main Characters: Daisy, Danielle, Vivi, Kevin
Date Started: 2nd April 2012
Date Finished: 5th April 2012
Rating Given: ***
Netgalley:
High school sophomore Daisy Jones is just trying to get by unnoticed. It doesn't help that she's the new girl at school, lives in a trailer park, and doesn't even own a cell phone. But there's a good reason for all that: Daisy has a secret, unpredictable power-one only her best friend, Danielle, knows about. Despite her "gift" (or is it a curse?), Daisy's doing a good job of fitting in-and a cute senior named Kevin even seems interested in her! But when Daisy tries to help Vivi, a mysterious classmate in a crisis, she soon discovers that her new friend has a secret of her own. Now Daisy and her friends must deal with chilling dreams and messages from the beyond. Can Daisy channel the power she's always tried to hide-before it's too late? Extra features include:
  • A short graphic novel illustrated by Alexis Seabrook, telling Vivi's story
  • Danielle's journal, revealing her deepest thoughts

I stumbled across this book whilst looking what to request on Netgalley and it sounded like an interesting book. Although I wasn't a huge fan of the cover (usually what attracts my attention on netgalley) I requested it anyway and I am glad I did.

There was always something going on in this book all though not all of it was understandable. For most of the book I wasn't sure whether I actually believed what was going on as it seemed more like little children with an overactive imagination. Don't get me wrong I do read a lot of books like this and I love them but this one just seemed too unbelievable like they was just making it up for the attention.

There was times when I was really into the book that I didn't want to stop reading it as I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next and to see if any of it was true.

The characters was alright but I just couldn't get attached to them so I didn't care what was happening to them. I can't even remember how old they was supposed to be they seemed to act like 12 year old but I think they was supposed to be older. They all seemed nice enough most of the time but there was times when they was being mean to each other but by the end I found out the reason and understood.

I really loved the ending it seemed to be just that the end which I like in a book as I don't like lose ends especially if they are supposed to be stand alone books which this one is.

There was also some extra bits that I thought was a great addition to the story as we were able to see what the other characters was thinking and even going through where as the rest was from Daisy's point of view. Also there was some illustrations which I though was beautifully done and gave me a more vivid picture of what was going on.

Teaser Tuesday #18

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My Teasers:

Immortal City by Scott Speer

The headlights of an approaching ambulance swept over the scene.
"Good night, Brad," the Angel said, and smiled.
"Good-" Brad began to reply, but trailed off as he realized the Guardian was already gone. Alone now, standing in the cold, Brad began to shake uncontrollably. The realization had only just hit him. The realization that he should be dead. - Page 5
Not actually started this book just yet but I will have done before the day is out so I thought I would look for a quote from it. I didn't want to go far into the book as I didn't want to spoil it for you guys as well as myself but this quote sounds interesting and makes me wonder what is happening and what is going to happen.

                          Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan

Danielle couldn't understand why it bothered me. "Let it go," she said. "So what? A weird thing happened and she doesn't want to talk about it. I probably wouldn't want to, either. What's the big deal? I know you're, like, special and all, but are you also know her guardian for life or something?"
I couldn't explain it to Danielle, or even to myself, really, but it just felt important. Something had happened when I found Vivi, and like it or not, we were, as she said, connected. - Page 12
Not read much of this book but this does make me intrigued to find out what is going to happen next.

These are my teasers for the week what are yours?

I have had Mortal Kiss on my shelf for a while now so I thought I best get it read as it does sound good. To be honest I can't remember what Gift was about but I'm sure it sounded good otherwise I wouldn't have requested to read it.

That's what I am planning on reading this week. What are you guys reading?

In My Mailbox #17

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme that is hosted by The Story Siren. This is where we show what we have either bought or was given throughout the week gone by.

I ordered these books last week and arrived Monday as one of them was a pre-order.

A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

I have been after this for quite some time now so when I had some vouchers to spend I thought I would look to see how much it was and at only £3.99 I had to snap it up. I am very much looking forward to this as I have read Beastly and it's now one of my favourites so I am hoping this will go the same way.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Again I have been after this for awhile mainly on netgalley but I kept getting turned down which made me want to read it all the more and then when it kept getting great reviews I just knew I had to get it with my vouchers. I just hope its worth the wait!

I also got a couple of books for review.

Chose Ones by Tiffany Truitt

I see this cover on Goodreads and I fell in love with it so I just had to see if I could get a review copy of it. Which I received a e-arc copy of it from Danielle Barclay over at Entangled Publishing. I am really looking forward to reading this book lets hope its as good as the cover.

Torn by Amanda Hocking

I received this in the post the other day and at the time I had no idea where it came from as I knew I hadn't asked to review it (although I wanted to) and I never ordered it. When I emailed Jessica Preeg over at St. Martin's Press (who had sent me the first to review) I found out that because I reviewed the first one I get to review Torn as well and I for one can't wait!

I also got a couple of galley's from Netgalley

Shayla Witherwood: A Half-Farie Tale by Tamra Torero
