Cover Reveal: Creators (Lost Souls #3) by Tiffany Truitt

Today Tiffany Truitt and Entangled Teen are revealing the final cover for The Lost Souls Trilogy, CREATORS. Along with an exclusive excerpt and a pre-order giveaway that Tiffany has set up on her blog!

I would have to say this cover is my favourite so far it looks stunning!

On to the reveal!

Blurb:
Heartbroken but more determined than ever after a tense showdown in the woods, sixteen-year-old Tess once again returns to the safety of her community of Isolationists. Bolstered by new alliances and desperate to protect those she loves, this time she knows she can return stronger and more powerful than ever to take back what is hers.
As she trains in combat and grows more confident, Tess receives beautiful letters penned by her forbidden love, the chosen one James, from his prison in Templeton. He is now serving as a bodyguard to the creators—the team of scientists who created artificial life in the first place. And what he has discovered about the true origin of the illness that halted natural life could change everything.

Enemy will become ally and death will bring new hope in this stunning conclusion to Tiffany Truitt’s epic Lost Souls trilogy.

Exclusive Excerpt!
Somewhere, James was just as trapped as I was.
I thought of the morning when we lay with each other, curled against one another, never beginning and never ending. How we’d stayed like that till the sun began to rise.
James had reached down and pulled me off the ground. He wore a satisfied grin on his face. “Someone is mighty proud of himself,” I teased.
He laughed. It bounced through the forest, calling it awake. Readying it for the day. “I’m just insanely happy.”
I stood on the tips of my toes and kissed him gently on his scar. “I’m insanely happy too,” I whispered.
James looked down at me, and I was lost all over again. I would never tire of looking into those mismatched eyes. They didn’t make him different. They made him him. He chuckled as he reached over and pulled a leaf from my tangled hair. “They’ll know just by looking at you that we’ve been up to no good.”
“No good?” I purred. “I thought it was very, very good.”
James growled and lifted me into the air. I wrapped my legs around his waist as he pressed his lips hungrily against mine. I moved my hands to his hair, curling my fingers into it, attaching myself to him. I never wanted to let go. Every part of me ached to be touched by him, and every part of me ached to touch him right back.
“Do you know how much I love you?” he breathed into the base of my neck. His lips fluttered against my skin.
I nodded, kissing the top of his head. “As much as I love you.”
James slowly put my feet back on the ground. He cradled my face in his hands. “That will never change. No matter what.”
I looked deep into his eyes. “I know.” Because I did. It was one of life’s few assurances. I would always love James.
I pressed my lips once again to his scar. “I adore this scar,” I whispered, unable to hide the smile that seemed etched on my face all morning.
“You’re enough to drive a man crazy,” he said The tremble of his voice caused my toes to curl. I wanted him again. And again. And again.
My fingers traced the waist of his pants. “Tonight?” I said, knowing full well it was a promise that I probably wouldn’t be able to keep.
James grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips. “Tonight,” he echoed.
As the sun climb higher into the sky, I knew our moment was coming to an end. James reached down and placed his hand over my heart. “Thank you,” he said.
“For what?” I asked, my voice choked with emotion.
            “For everything.”
As the memory slipped away, I looked back up at the night sky. Praying and hoping that James knew how much I wanted to thank him too.
            For everything.

Naturals Blog Tour: Interview plus a giveaway!

About NATURALS: Ripped away from those she loves most, Tess is heartbroken as her small band of travellers reaches the Isolationist camp in the mysterious and barren Middlelands. Desperate to be reunited with James, the forbidden chosen one who stole her heart, she wants nothing to do with the rough Isolationists, who are without allegiance in the war between the Westerners and Easterners. But having their protection, especially for someone as powerful as Tess, may come at a cost. When James returns, Tess’s world once again feels complete—until she discovers her sister, Louisa, has taken up her old post at Templeton, the dangerous chosen ones training centre and the site of Tess’s loss of innocence. Tess will do anything to protect her loved ones—but will the price be more than she can give? This second book in Tiffany Truitt’s dystopian series is a thought-provoking, thrilling story that asks who the true enemy really is—the chosen ones who are different, or the naturals…who are just like us.

What inspired The Lost Souls series?
I’m at the age where a lot of my friends are getting married and starting families. Naturally, one starts to question life, and as woman, motherhood. The Lost Souls series has a great deal to do with ideas of creation and gender identity. There are also some literary works that have contributed to the novel: Shelley’s Frankenstein, Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles, and Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice.  I was completing my Masters in Literature (with a focus on 19th cent British literature) when I first started the series.

Who is your favourite character in your Lost Souls series? And why?
I am very protective of my female lead, Tess. A lot of readers think she comes across as too hard and unfeeling, and I always get a bit defensive of her. When you think of what she has gone through, it’s not surprising that she fears feeling anything at all. She has always been taught that love is a weakness. I think there is a double standard in YA literature. Male characters can be dark and brooding while female characters are shunned for following this character track. The beauty of writing this series has been watching her transform.
That being said, there is a new character in book two named Lockwood. He is a ball to write for, and I think readers will really enjoy his humour and lightness.

How many books are there going to be in The Lost Souls series?
There will be a total of three books in the series: Chosen Ones, Naturals, and Creators.

Can you give us any teasers for what is coming next?
They way the books are set up (hinted at in the titles), each book explores a different aspect of the dystopian world. Book one explored Templeton, the training centre of the young chosen ones. Book two takes the reader to the community where Naturals who ran from the council live. Book three will take the reader right to the heart of the council itself. While there, we will learn quite a bit about the creators, those responsible for engineering the chosen ones, and their ultimate role in this world.

Which books/authors are your favourites?
I get asked this question a lot, and my answer will probably be different in every interview! It really depends on the mood I am in when asked the question. The best book I have read in 2013 is John Green’s, The Fault in Our Stars. I know I am late to the party, but it is amazing. Simply devastating and beautiful all at the same time. I just purchased Looking for Alaska. I can’t wait to read it.

What are you working on now/next?
I am in the middle of revisions on a contemporary YA novel that explores how two teenagers deal with the tragic death of their best friend.  It is one of my favourite stories I have written yet, and I hope to find a home for it soon.

Cover Reveal: Naturals (The Lost Souls #1)

Naturals (The Lost Souls #1) by Tiffany Truitt Cover Reveal

I am delighted to say that Entangled Publishing has asked me to be a part of the cover reveal to the sequal  of Tiffany Truitt's Chosen Ones (here's my review), Naturals which I am looking forward to reading. We do have a bit of a wait though as it's not due out until 2013!

About Tiffany:  Tiffany Truitt was born in Peoria, Illinois. A self-proclaimed Navy brat, Tiffany spent most of her childhood living in Virginia, but don’t call her a Southerner. She also spent a few years living in Cuba. Since her time on the island of  one McDonald's and Banana Rats (don't ask) she has been obsessed with traveling. And now for the cover...

Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings. Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.

NATURALS is the second book in The Lost Souls trilogy, and follows the dystopian hit CHOSEN ONES.
I love this cover maybe even more than the first one! It's very much inkeeping with Chosen Ones as it's kept the same background which I love as it adds texture to the book which I love. I love that the hair being a bright red against her pale skin as it really does look effective. I usually like the eyes open if they have used a person as it can tell a lot about what that person is thinking but in this case I don't think it matters. I just love this cover and I can't wait to see what happens. I also can't wait to see what the next book is going to look like as this series has beautiful covers.

BOTM #7

Here's the books that I read in April 2012:
  • Mortal Kiss by Alice Moss
  • Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan
  • Immortal City by Scott Speer
  • Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
  • Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
  • Endure by Carrie Jones
  • Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
  • A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
And the book of the month goes too...

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Another hard month of books to choose from as there was quite a few five star books but in the end the winner could only go to this book. The reason why it had to be this one was because I loved it so much and I couldn't put it down but when I had to put it down I was thinking about it even during my Zumba class!
A very addicting book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Divergent was actually finished today so no review at the minute but one will be coming very soon.

Blurb from Goodreads:

What if you were mankind’s last chance at survival?Sixteen-year-old Tess lives in a compound in what was once the Western United States, now decimated after a devastating fourth World War. But long before that, life as we knew it had been irrevocably changed, as women mysteriously lost the ability to bring forth life. Faced with the extinction of the human race, the government began the Council of Creators, meant to search out alternative methods of creating life. The resulting artificial human beings, or Chosen Ones, were extraordinarily beautiful, unbelievably strong, and unabashedly deadly.

Life is bleak, but uncomplicated for Tess as she follows the rigid rules of her dystopian society, until the day she begins work at Templeton, the training facility for newly created Chosen Ones. There, she meets James, a Chosen One whose odd love of music and reading rivals only her own. The attraction between the two is immediate in its intensity—and overwhelming in its danger.

But there is more to the goings-on at Templeton than Tess ever knew, and as the veil is lifted from her eyes, she uncovers a dark underground movement bent not on taking down the Chosen Ones, but the Council itself. Will Tess be able to stand up to those who would oppress her, even if it means giving up the only happiness in her life?

When I first came across this book I thought it sounded and looked good so I knew I had to read it. So a big thanks goes out to Entangled Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review this book as I really enjoyed reading it

I actually started out not liking this book and thinking not another Dystopian book that just doesn't work for me. It was so confusing to start with and I just didn't know what was going on which did take a while for things to actually to sink in and get what was happening. Also it was a little slow paced but by the time I got to the end I start to realize things was happening from the beginning I just didn't realize.

Once I did get into the book it was a completely different story for me as I was so enthralled that I just wanted to read the next chapter before putting it down. Even when it was put down I would still be thinking about it, thinking what is going to happen now?, How will they get out of this predicament. I even dreamt about the world that Tiffany Truitt created! That's just how well Truitt has written this book that I can actually visualize this world.

To start with I wasn't that keen on Tess's character as she seemed too selfish however, by the end of the book I was rooting for her which I think is down to the fact we learn more about her character with each chapter and it made me understand the way she was. I loved James he was different to the other Chosen Ones he was sweet and gentle and would do anything for Tess. He was also a strong fighter and would try and protect anyone he could. I just hope he stays that way through out the series. I did feel sorry for him at times especially when Tess was mean to him. The chemistry between them both was sizzling it really did pop out of the book.

Overall a slow and confusing start but a strong and powerful ending I can't wait to find out what is going to happen next.

Teaser Tuesday #19

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teasers:

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth

"Uncle!" Katrina hurried to his side to examine his hands. "What did you do to him?" she snarled at me.
I saw that the skin on Mr. Kale's palms was blackened, crisp and cracking, and my mind reeled backward to London Bridge in Lake Havasu City, to the burns covering Janna's legs, the handprints scorched onto her chest.
When I began backing toward the door, no one tried to stop me. - Page 162

Only just getting to a bit of action before this there was a lot of explaining things which did drag a bit but now it's getting more interesting.

                     Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt

Footsteps sounded from the hallway. I left the bathroom to see Robert staring at me. He looked sickly, like any minute he could join Emma in death. This is what love did to you.
He opened his mouth to speak, but I held up my hand to stop him. "Don't bother. I'll be fine," I said.
I didn't wait for a reply. I pushed past him and headed toward whatever future had been decided for me. - Page 14

A slow and confusing start but now it has picked up and I am enjoying it.

In My Mailbox #17

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme that is hosted by The Story Siren. This is where we show what we have either bought or was given throughout the week gone by.

I ordered these books last week and arrived Monday as one of them was a pre-order.

A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

I have been after this for quite some time now so when I had some vouchers to spend I thought I would look to see how much it was and at only £3.99 I had to snap it up. I am very much looking forward to this as I have read Beastly and it's now one of my favourites so I am hoping this will go the same way.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Again I have been after this for awhile mainly on netgalley but I kept getting turned down which made me want to read it all the more and then when it kept getting great reviews I just knew I had to get it with my vouchers. I just hope its worth the wait!

I also got a couple of books for review.

Chose Ones by Tiffany Truitt

I see this cover on Goodreads and I fell in love with it so I just had to see if I could get a review copy of it. Which I received a e-arc copy of it from Danielle Barclay over at Entangled Publishing. I am really looking forward to reading this book lets hope its as good as the cover.

Torn by Amanda Hocking

I received this in the post the other day and at the time I had no idea where it came from as I knew I hadn't asked to review it (although I wanted to) and I never ordered it. When I emailed Jessica Preeg over at St. Martin's Press (who had sent me the first to review) I found out that because I reviewed the first one I get to review Torn as well and I for one can't wait!

I also got a couple of galley's from Netgalley

Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan
