BOTM #7

Here's the books that I read in April 2012:
  • Mortal Kiss by Alice Moss
  • Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan
  • Immortal City by Scott Speer
  • Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
  • Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
  • Endure by Carrie Jones
  • Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
  • A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge
  • Divergent by Veronica Roth
And the book of the month goes too...

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Another hard month of books to choose from as there was quite a few five star books but in the end the winner could only go to this book. The reason why it had to be this one was because I loved it so much and I couldn't put it down but when I had to put it down I was thinking about it even during my Zumba class!
A very addicting book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Divergent was actually finished today so no review at the minute but one will be coming very soon.

Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
Not that far into it as of yet but it was a bit of a slow start and now I am getting more and more into it. I just hope this can continue to improve.

Chosen Ones by Tiffany Truitt
Again not that far into this book but it has been confusing to start with. The further I get into it starts making more sense which then leads me to enjoy it.

Candlewax by C. Bailey Sims
Not sure why I picked this book from netgalley but I'm going to give it a try anyway maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

Book Review: Mortal Kiss (Mortal Kiss #1)

Mortal Kiss (Mortal Kiss #1) by Alice Moss

Format: Paperback
Publisher: Bantam Children
Published: 28th January 2011
Pages: 341
Main Characters: Faye, Finn, Lucas, Liz, Jimmy
Date Started: 30th March 2012
Date Finished: 3rd April 2012
Rating Given: ***

Goodreads:
In Faye McCarron’s sleepy New England town of Winter Mill, the snow has arrived a little ahead of season—September, to be exact. But Faye and her best friend Liz are too busy reporting for the school paper to give the sudden chill much thought, especially with two new boys, Lucas and Finn, heating things up. Mercy Morrow, a wealthy heiress, has baffled the community by moving into a remote old mansion in the woods, bringing her charismatic son Lucas with her. And while Finn may be a member of the Black Dogs, a motorcycle gang taking over the streets, Faye can’t help but be intrigued by his gruff, dangerous allure.

Soon, Faye and Liz realize that romance may be the least of their worries. A dead body has turned up in the woods, the Black Dogs are on the prowl, and the snow just won’t stop falling. As the temperature drops and Halloween approaches, the girls must discover the dark and menacing secret at the heart of Winter Mill—before it’s too late.

I have had this on my shelf for ages as at one point I had heard so many good things about it tat I had to get it but then once I got it, it took me ages to get around to reading it.

When I first started reading this book I didn't really like it and I had all intentions of rating it only two stars. It was so slow and confusing as things was strange but nothing was really getting explained or even mentioned for most of the first half of the book. It did save it self just over halfway through as it picked up and things was starting to get explained and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.

As well as it being confusing and slow I also found it rather shallow but again when everything picked up so did this area as there seemed to be more important things than looks and even love.

Faye was an okay character and I didn't really think much of her until the end when she was willing to do some serious sacrificing which did actually make her a much more likable character. There was times when I felt sorry for her and then other times I just think she should grow up but then some how by the end she has grown up. I hope that she stays the way she was at the end in the next book and not go back a step.

Finn was rather mysterious to start with as we didn't really know much about him but some how I still liked him as he did seem sweet even if at times I didn't understand what was going on with him. When things start to get explained Finn's story is also explained and I then understand why he was the way he was.

Lucas I wasn't sure about him as he seemed a bit off to start with but again by the end he was another great character and gave up a lot for the sake of someone else and I thought that was a great selfless thing to do.

Liz was so annoying to start with she was the most shallow of them all and I just couldn't warm to her for most of the book but she like Faye seemed to grow up a lot. She wasn't nice to Jimmy for most of the book but then all of a sudden everything changes. Jimmy was a sweet character but not in it much until the end but when we did get to see more of him the more I liked him I hope we get to see more of him in the next book.

Overall not a great start everything is annoying even the characters but then something shifts and everything and everyone improves, it's kind of like a tale of two halves. With it being good towards the end it has made me want to read the next book but I do hope it starts the way this one ended.

I have had Mortal Kiss on my shelf for a while now so I thought I best get it read as it does sound good. To be honest I can't remember what Gift was about but I'm sure it sounded good otherwise I wouldn't have requested to read it.

That's what I am planning on reading this week. What are you guys reading?
