Teaser Tuesday #32

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teaser:

Foretold by Jana Oliver

'It's none of yer damned business,' he said, surging through the intersection, narrowly missing a slow-moving station wagon. 'Give it a rest, will ya?'
Riley stared out of the side window, surprised the glass didn't melt from her fury.
One of these days I'll know the truth. - Page 11

I have only just started this book but already I'm hooked. It was hard to pick a quote that won't give anything away but I don't think this gives anything away.

Book Review: Revived

Revived by Cat Patrick

Format: Paperback (arc)
Publisher: Electric Monkey
Published: 2nd July 2012
Pages: 326
Main Characters: Daisy, Matt, Audrey
Date Started: 17th July 2012
Date Finished: 20th July 2012
Rating Given: ****

Blurb from Goodreads:

As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life.

A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and as she discovers the agency’s true goals, she realizes she’s at the center of something much larger—and more sinister—than she ever imagined.
At first I did want this book because of the (American) cover but then when I read the synopsis I knew it would be a very interesting read.

I do like this book cover as I love the grey of most of the background but the hair is a yellow so it does stand out. There isn't really anything that would give away what this book is about within the cover but for me I would say that the hair being in colour suggests that there is some light to come to the character.

This is my first time reading a Cat Patrick novel and I now know it won't be my last. Patrick was able to create an emotional read which nearly had me in tears which is hard to do in a book. The only reason why I couldn't give this book the full five stars was because it was a bit too sad for me in places which I couldn't really cope with.

There is a lot of twists and turns in this book that I for one didn't expect which made this book an entertaining read which had me hooked right from the start. Even though I knew that this was about a girl who has died 5 times I still didn't expect it to be as sad as what it was and I felt down while reading the book. I kind of liked the ending but I would have liked to see more into the future as I think this is a stand alone so it would have been nice to see what actually happened to some of the characters.

The characters I liked. Daisy was a sweet 15 year old and by the end of the book I felt she had grown as she had a lot to deal with especially with some of the revelations that she stumbled across. I really liked Audrey's character as she was a strong person but I won't say anything else about her as it would be a huge spoiler. Matt I really liked he was so sweet but at times I felt so sorry for him. Daisy and Matt I didn't quite get the instant connection but by the end of the book I loved them and was routing for them.

Overall this is a book that you need to be in the right frame of mind as it will have you in tears. A very powerful read.

Book Review: Burn

Burn by Heath Gibson

Format: e-arc
Publisher: Flux
Published: 8th August 2012
Pages: 264
Main Characters: William, Steven, Samantha
Date Started: 15th July 2012
Date Finished: 19th July 2012
Rating Given: **

Blurb from Netgalley:

William Tucker loves being a volunteer firefighter (maybe it's no coincidence that a pastor's son would enjoy saving people). And after he rescues his crush, Mandy Pearman, she undergoes a profound transformation for the better. In fact, it seems like a lot of good comes from the embers of tragedy in his small Alabama town. William may not be able to meet his father's expectations, force his mother to ditch the gin, or protect his gay brother, but for those who need a second chance at life, William isn't afraid to light the match-and become the hero the town needs.

I think when I first requested this book I thought it was going to be something completely different, well that teaches me not to read the synopsis.

The cover I love this is most likely the reason why I wanted to read this book as it looks so mysterious which is what I like my books to involve. I love the fire in the background as I think that fire can have some beautiful colours which is what this cover portrays. The cover is in keeping with the story but I wish the story was as intriguing as the cover sadly for me that wasn't the case.

This was the first time I had heard of Heath Gibson and although I am not a fan of this book I won't let it put me off reading his other books he might bring out in the future. I do like the fact that he wrote about some very strong issues but I do feel like they where glossed over maybe if he went into more depth I would have liked it a bit more.

I personally didn't like this book and my reason behind that was because I found that the next chapter had gone onto something completely different to what was being talked about at the end of the previous chapter and sometimes it was a different day with nothing being explained. When I read the last page of this book I was left I was left in complete shock not only with the way in which it ended but I felt nothing was cleared up I was more confused when I finished than while I was reading it.

The characters I'm not too sure on as sometimes I liked them and got where they was coming from and then other times I couldn't stand them. William or as he is better known as 'Wee Wee' is the male lead character is a small boy (hence the nickname) is a volunteer firefighter who just wants to be accepted. I do feel sorry for him as he has a lot he has to put up with but there was times when I thought he needed to understand where his brother was coming from. As for his brother Steven he seemed like a nice enough boy but I did feel he was a bit too pushy. Samantha seemed a bit angry to start with but by the end she did seem nice. Other characters I felt just went missing as they would be in the story but then they wouldn't be in it any more leaving me thinking what happened to them.

Overall I was left confused about what actually happened with the characters as well as the actual story but there was occasions when it was an alright book.

Book Review: Taken By Storm (Raised by Wolves #3)

Taken By Storm (Raised By Wolves #3) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

(May contain spoilers)

Format: Paperback (arc)
Publisher: Quercus
Published: 7th June 2012
Pages: 312
Main Characters: Bryn, Chase, Lake, Devon
Date Started: 12th June 2012
Date Finished: 17th June 2012
Rating Given: *****

Blurb from Goodreads:

Bryn knows first-hand that being the alpha of a werewolf pack means making hard decisions, and that being human makes things a thousand times worse. She's prepared to give up her humanity, but the wolf who promised to Change her is waiting - though for what, Bryn doesn't know. Still human, she must take her place in the werewolf Senate, the precarious democracy that rules the North American packs. Standing side by side with werewolves who were ancient long before she was ever born is enough of a challenge, but Bryn soon learns that the Senate has been called to deal with a problem: the kind of problem that involves human bodies, a Rabid werewolf, and memories that Bryn, Chase, and the rest of their pack would rather forget. With bodies stacking up and political pressure closing in from all sides, Bryn and her pack are going to have to turn to old enemies and even older friends for help - especially when it starts to look like this time, the monster might be one of their own.

I was sent this book by the publishers so before I start I just want to thank Quercus for sending me this book as I really enjoyed it.

The cover is slightly different to the first two as the font of the title this one isn't as elegant as the others but it is simply done and it's embossed which I kind of like it's what draws me to some of the covers. I'm not sure if the girl is the same as this is the first time we see her full face. I love the backgrounds in each of the series as they all have different colours but in this the UK cover we don't have the moon which the US one does which is a shame as I liked the metallic look of the cover which made the moon eye-catching I missed that in this one.

I love Jennifer Lynn Barnes writing style as I was able to really get a grip on what Bryn was thinking as well as being able to picture everything as if I was there. I am really looking forward to reading more books from Barnes I am hoping that they will be as good as this one.

I didn't know what to expect with this book as I enjoyed the first one but the second one not so much but I was pleasantly surprised as I found it better than the others. There was so much more going on and I was always kept guessing it was thoroughly entertaining. It seemed like a roller coater ride of emotions for this book because one minute I would be laughing or smiling and the next I would be near to tears I love the fact that I was emotionally attached to this book as it doesn't happen all the time. I was actually tempted to rate it four stars however as the ending I wasn't too happy with but when I thought about it I just couldn't do it as I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't rate it down just because something that I desperately wanted to happen didn't. I am hoping that there will be another one but I'm not sure that there will be as near enough everything was cleared up if not another book in this series Barnes could do a spin-off.

I loved the characters and I truly felt for every single one of them at some point in this book. I must admit that Devon is my favourite character as he is charming, sweet, funny well I could go on describing how I love him but it would take forever. Bryn had a lot to go through throughout this series but even more so in this book and it made her more likable. Chase again we don't get to know who he is all we really know is he will do anything and I mean ANYTHING for Bryn. With Lake we saw a softer side to her and it was nice to see but that's all I'm going to say on her as if I say anything else it would me a major spoiler and I'm not going to do that to you.

Overall a brilliant book that will have you hooked from the very first moment you turn the page right until you turn the last page.

Book Cover: The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

For the first time for my book cover posts I am going to talk about a book cover that I hated even if it's still on my book shelf!
They say don't judge a book by it's cover well I do always have and always will (no I haven't learnt my lesson). It took me a long time before I even thought about reading this book as I couldn't stand the cover everyone kept telling me how I should give it a chance but I just couldn't, but, then after more time passed and more people telling me to read it I thought I would give it a try and I'm glad I did as this story far outshines this particular version of the cover.
To me this cover seems like it's aimed at younger boys below the ages of 12 yet when reading the actual book that isn't the case but this cover just doesn't portray this.
I think the boy in the centre of the book is supposed to be Peeta but I for one can not see this boy as the lovely Peeta. Don't get me wrong the illustration is very good they must be very talented to be able to draw something like that but come on he is no Peeta!
The only thing I kind of like about this cover is the target around the guy as that is in keeping with what is happening within the book.
I think I would have liked the titles' font if it wasn't for the silhouette in the middle of one of the letters as I don't think it looks right.
There are now so many different versions of this book and trust me when I say they are far better than this one and at some point I will be changing to the newer better looking covers. When I read this book I just feel embarrassed by the cover I feel like I should put something in front of it.
This is one of those covers that I don't like but who agrees or disagrees with me let me know your thoughts.

Teaser Tuesday #31

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teasers:

Taken By Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

"What happened in that house wasn't a clean kill." Caroline shook her head. "It wasn't even an animal one."
"What was it?" Lake asked, her voice strained and high.
Caroline didn't answer, so I did, on her behalf.
"That," I said, shivering in the night and drawing what little warmth I could from Chase's body, "was retribution." - Page 121
It was hard to find any quotes that didn't give too much away but I decided this one left you all guessing. I am really enjoying this book and by far the best in this series.

            Burn by Heath Gibson

Her eyes bounce from me to Daddy like she wants him to join in. But like the rest of us, he just wants to eat. His silent refusal to participate pisses her off. She slams her hand down on the table hard enough to make the silverware jump. "You're supposed to honour me. That's what it says."
I slide my chair back and pick up my plate. "Mom, I guess it all depends on your definition."  - Page 22
Not read much of this book so had to pick an early quote so not as interesting as what it might actually be. (Arc copy so quote may differ to final book).

Book Review: Otherkin (Otherkin #1)

Otherkin (Otherkin #1) by Nina Berry

Format: e-arc
Publisher: K Teen
Published: 31st July 2012
Pages: 320
Main Characters: Desdemona, Caleb
Date Started: 28th June 2012
Date Finished: 12th July 2012
Rating Given: ***

Blurb from Netgalley:

Sixteen-year-old Desdemona Gray doesn't even bother with crushes on cute boys now that she's forced to wear a hard plastic back brace all day.  What guy would want to literally have to knock on a girl to be let in?  So she squashes down every impossible desire until an uber-awkward brush with a boy brings out all her frustration and she changes...into a tiger.  In that bewildering moment, she is captured by Ximon, the leader of a fanatical group hell-bent on wiping out the five remaining tribes of shape-shifters, known as the otherkin.
With help from a handsome, mysterious fellow captive named Caleb, she escapes and goes on the run, finding allies and learning the truth behind the legends of wizards and were-creatures.  Then Ximon goes too far, and Dez must tap into all her buried desires to find her inner tiger and save herself, her new friends, and the boy she loves.

When I read the synopsis on Netgalley I thought it sounded interesting so I wanted to give it a try. I am glad I did give it a try as in the end I found it a likable read although not as interesting as I first thought.

The cover I am not too sure about as too me it does look a bit cheesy but I do kind of like it because of the colours that have been used. I also like the fact that the cover matches what the story is about which I love when a cover can portray a storyline with just a few images. The title's font is good because of the extension of some of the letters makes the title stand out.

This is my first book that I have read of Nina Berry and I believe it is also her debut novel which I think is a promising start to her career. I love the way she describes everything in such detail as I was able to actually picture what was going on in the story.

Although I did enjoy the story by the end it did take me awhile to actually get there as at the beginning there was far too much going on which usually I like but in this case it was too much as I got so confused to what was happening. It also took me awhile to get into and because of that I found myself putting off continuing to read it which is why I felt like I was reading it for ages. Once I got halfway through I found that it settled down and even though there was still a bit going on it wasn't too much making it a more enjoyable read.

As for the characters it again took me awhile to warm to them but like the actual story I found by the time I finished the book I cared about them and what happened to them. Desdemona was a likable enough character but I didn't really get much about her but I guess she didn't get herself either so maybe I was feeling what she was feeling. Caleb I kind of liked from the start but there was times that I wasn't sure whether he was going to turn. I didn't get the instant attraction between these two characters but again by the end I loved their interaction and some of the things that what said to one another had me smiling.

Overall this book took me awhile to get into but once I did I found it a cute read and I am looking forward to continuing on with the series.

Book Review: Spark (Sky Chasers #2)

Spark (Sky Chasers #2) by Amy Kathleen Ryan

(May contain spoilers)

Format: Hardback (arc)
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Published: 17th July 2012
Pages: 309
Main Characters: Kieran, Waverly, Seth
Date Started: 7th July 2012
Date Finished: 12th July 2012
Rating Given: ***

Blurb from Goodreads:

Waverly and Kieran are finally reunited on the Empyrean. Kieran has led the boys safely up to this point, and now that the girls are back, their mission seems slightly less impossible: to chase down the New Horizon, and save their parents from the enemy ship. But nothing is truly as it seems…Kieran’s leadership methods have raised Seth’s hackles— and Waverly’s suspicions. Is this really her fiancé? The handsome, loving boy she was torn from just a short time before? More and more, she finds her thoughts aligned with Seth’s. But if Seth is Kieran’s Enemy No. 1, what does that make her?

In one night, a strange explosion rocks the Empyrean—shooting them off course and delaying their pursuit of the New Horizon—and Seth is mysteriously released from the brig. Seth is the most obvious suspect for the explosion, and Waverly the most obvious suspect for releasing him. As the tension reaches a boiling point, will Seth be able to find the true culprit before Kieran locks them both away—or worse? Will Waverly follow her heart, even if it puts lives at risk? With the balance of power precarious and the clock ticking, every decision counts… every step brings them closer to a new beginning, or a sudden end...

I was asked by the publishers at St. Martin's Griffin if I wanted to review this book, and with me kind of enjoying the first one (Glow) I thought I would give this one a try to see if it was any better, to be honest with you I personally don't think it's any better. (Thanks to St. Martin's Griffin for giving me the chance to review this book).

I really do like this cover which does look better when you actually have a hard copy. I love the way the title is the main focus of the cover as it makes it more eye catching and also you know straight away what the book is called as well as the series because even though the series title is in a lot more smaller font my eye still goes to that part of the book second with it being next to the huge title font. The colours is my favourite part of this cover as it's just been left simple just like Glow had done.

This is only my second book that I have read by Amy Kathleen Ryan but what she can do that many others can't is create a very addictive storyline and explains things in such a way that I can picture them in my head which I like being able to do. The only thing I don't like about her style of writing is that the characters that she has created aren't very likable only a couple of the secondary characters are characters that I actually like.

There was so much going on in this book from the moment I opened the first page it was such a thrilling storyline that got me hooked on this book. The story of this book was a lot better than in Glow as it was more entertaining and I for one couldn't tell who I could trust.

As for the characters I didn't really like them although for each of the main characters they did have a couple of moments when I thought I would like them but in the end those couple of moments wasn't good enough. Seth was a lot more likable in this one than in Glow but because of the things he did in the first book I just couldn't forgive him enough in this book, but, maybe I will change my mind in the next book as I have a feeling he is going to do something huge. Kieran I actually liked in the first book but by the end of this second book I couldn't stand him as he was acting a lot like how Seth did in the first. Waverly was very annoying I couldn't stand the way she manipulated some of the characters. In this book Waverly and Kieran seemed as bad as each other as they were both hypocrites. A lot of the time I did forget these where all children as they were acting a lot older although the ones that acted younger were actually the oldest!

Overall I loved the actual storyline but the characters I near enough hated but because of the addicting storyline I will continue on in this series as I would like to know what happens next.

Book Cover: The Infernal Devices

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

  • Clockwork Angel
  • Clockwork Prince
  • Clockwork Princess
With the cover reveal late last night I thought I would talk about it and the others together in my Wednesday post about book covers that I love and this series is no exception.
I seem to love everything that Clare puts her mind too but I must admit this particular series is starting to over take her other series The Mortal Instruments I think this will all depend on how each of the series ends.
The covers for both the series are good but I think this series just tips it for me I'm not sure why as I would say that both series are similar. I think that it might be because of the clothing used in this one has a more elegant feel to it which definitely fits into the time period of which this series was written in.
I love the way in which they are all similar looking yet have noticeable differences at the same time. They all seem to be in different locations around London which I love that idea as it gives the story an actual setting.
Also there seems to be a bit of sandwich print of the locations and something else in the background which I do like but I do wish I could see what else was used in the background but that might just be because of the pictures that I have used I guess I should have looked at my books first.
I also love that they have used the different main characters for each book especially the two guys as they really do make me think that these two guys are Will and Jem which I am glad of as it gives me more of a visual of them and I love to be able to have people in mind for the characters. Although I love the cover for Clockwork Princess I do think that Tessa (I think that's who it's supposed to be), looks a bit smug which I don't think Tessa ever acts smug so I just can't picture this person as Tessa.
I love the background colours for each of the covers as they are subtle colours and I could imagine that these are the kind of colours that would be used in the 1800's. I also love the way that the book looks alight as it immediately draws my eye to it making me think what the significance it has to the story if any.
With the title's font I'm not sure as I like that it has been kept simple as it doesn't over power the rest of the cover but, I would have liked to have seen the title done in the style of writing that they would have used in the 1800's.
Overall I love the covers just as much as the books so I am hoping this will be said for the last book.
Bring on 2013 is all I can say!

Teaser Tuesday #30

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teaser (One teaser as I am still reading a book that I did a teaser on last week):

Spark by Amy Kathleen Ryan

He made a fist. He was doing what he had to do. If Seth was tampering with the thruster controls and endangering the crew, if Waverly was helping him, he absolutely had to know. He had two hundred and fifty lives in his hands, and it was his job to protect them, no matter how uncomfortable it made him feel.
He was at war. He must never forget that. - Page 29

I'm really not sure what I think about this book as I am enjoying the actual story, however I don't like any of the characters. This was how I felt with Glow which was the first in the Sky Chasers novel.

Book Review: Shattered Dreams (Midnight Dragonfly #1)

Shattered Dreams (Midnight Dragonfly #1)

Format: Paperback (arc)
Publisher: Quercus
Published: 5th July 2012
Pages: 341
Main Characters: Trinity, Chase
Date Started: 4th July 2012
Date Finished: 7th July 2012
Rating Given: ****

Blurb from Goodreads:

Upon the death of her grandmother, Trinity arrives on her aunt's doorstep in New Orleans with virtually no knowledge of her mysterious heritage. Dropped into high school, she is trying her best to fit in, but there is something about her, connected to the mysterious city and her parents death, that makes her different.

When a game of truth or dare in a deserted New Orleans house gets out of control, Trinity starts to see things; twisted visions of the future that she tries to suppress. But all too quickly the dreams accelerate – terrifying images of a girl locked in a dark room. And when the head cheerleader goes missing, Trinity has to decide whether to step forward with what she's seen: a tough choice when the police are desperate for a suspect and she's falling in love with the missing girl's boyfriend.

Nothing prepares her for the dark odyssey that ensues, the surprising romance she finds along the way, or the shocking truths she learns. Not just about the girl who has gone missing, but the past that has been hidden from her, and the future that awaits.

I had seen this book on a couple of blogs which got me interested in the book and then when I found out what it was about on Goodreads I just knew I had to try and get a review copy of this book. A big thank you goes out to Quercus publishers for agreeing to send a review copy to me as I found it a thoroughly entertaining book that I just couldn't put down.

The cover isn't that eye catching I would say with the title right in the middle in huge font as well as being embossed is what catches my eye the most. Also the tagline below the title was what got me intrigued about this book. I do live the little patterns that are around the cover as it make the cover look a little less creepy. As for the rest it does have a creepy feel to it in the expression on the girls face as well as the creepy looking houses which all have a part to play in the actual book.

This is Ellie James debut novel and it was kicked of by the start of a new series called the Midnight Dragonfly. This was a great start to what I think will end up being one of my favourite series especially if it carries on in the same manner. James has created a brilliant new world where not everyone is who they seem. I did get a bit confused at the writing style of James as at one point one thing would be happening but the next minute something completely different would be happening without explaining what went on in the middle.

Even though it was jumpy at times I still fell hard for this book and was very close to rating it 5 stars as I was very addicted I just couldn't and didn't want to put it down. There was always something going on in this book and I never knew who I could trust and at times that even went for the main character Trinity. I also loved that I never knew what was going to happen as it kept me guessing throughout the book. Shattered Dreams is definitely an on the edge of your seat book and I loved it!

With Trinity I found was a nice enough character but I found she was lacking a bit of grit that I have come to like in my female characters I would have preferred her with more fire in her belly but I guess that is because she doesn't really understand who she is, so I am hoping that within the next books she will grow into a more feisty character. As for Chase I loved him to start with and to be honest with you I am not entirely sure why but love him I did. Well that was until nearer the end I felt a bit let down by him. I wish we saw more of Dylan as he was only in it for the last part of the book but I do think he will have a bigger part to play in the coming books as I think there could be a bit of a love triangle between Trinity-Chase-Dylan. By the end of the book it was Dylan I liked the most as he was the most intriguing character that I can't wait to find out more from.

Overall a brilliant start to this series as it was like a roller coaster ride, one that I didn't want to stop.

Book Review: Blood Moon (Drake Chronicles #5)

Blood Moon (Drake Chronicles #5) by Alyxandra Harvey

(May contain spoilers)

Format: Paperback (arc)
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Published: 5th July 2012
Pages: 357
Main Character: Lucy, Solange, Nicholas
Date Started: 28th June
Date Finished: 4th July
Rating Given: ****

Blurb from Goodreads:

"I can still smell his blood, Lucy. I can smell it everywhere. It's in the grass, in the air, on me. I'm not safe."
When the vampire tribes convene for the rare Blood Moon ceremonies, Solange Drake is plunged into a battle with her feral nature. The Drake brothers have been raised knowing they had to protect their younger sister at all cost. But forbidden magic and a mysterious stranger have put all of them in terrible danger.
Nicholas is going to have to make a difficult choice: between his girlfriend, Lucy, and his little sister, Solange - blood or love?

I was asked by Bloomsbury if I wanted to review this book and with it being one of my favourite series I jumped at the chance. I just needed to finish the other books first! Thank you to Bloomsbury for giving me the chance to review this latest book in the Drake Chronicles series as I wasn't disappointed.

This one seems to be a bit different to the others although it still has a black background this one has a lot more colour in it and I actually prefer it this way as it looks more creepy. This one is very much in keeping with the actual book as like I said it's creepy and sinister which I would say most of the book is that way inclined.

This book picks up right from where it was left in the previous book which I liked as with some books they begin a couple of months down the line and then they have to keep going back to what had happened in those missing months. With this book it seemed more sinister than any of the other Drake books with hardly any funny parts that we have come to expect in this series that being said there couldn't really be any funny things said with everything that was happening, and trust me when I say there was a lot happening. There is also a huge cliffhanger that has made me more anxious about the next book.

This time around we went back to the point of views of Lucy, Solange and Nicholas which I loved as I always missed Nicholas when it was the other Drake brother's turn. I loved the chemistry between Lucy and Nicholas I could read about there relationship all day long and not get bored as they are so sweet together and funny although not so much in this book. Lucy was getting on my nerves a little bit in Bleeding Hearts but in this book she was back to her brilliant ways. We did see a more vulnerable side to her in this book which I loved to see as it made her more human. Nicholas was just as good as he was in all the other books, he is one of my favourite brothers. Like Lucy we also got to see a more vulnerable side to him which made me feel for him. As for Solange I didn't really like her for most part of the book and when it was her chapter I found myself rushing through it to get back to Lucy or Nicholas, but by the end I think I understand more about why she was acting the way she was.

After I finished this book there was a little short story about how Helena and Liam got together which I absolutely loved I would love to her more about these two before they became the parents. There relationship actually reminded me of Lucy and Nicholas as they had a bit of banter but you could tell they had feelings for one another.

Overall I really enjoyed this book but I did miss the humour that we had in the previous book.

Book Cover: Vampire Shift

Vampire Shift by Tim O'Rourke

The first time I came across this book I loved this cover and was the main reason why I had to add this book to my tbr pile. I have not long since finished this book and I have to say that the story lives up to the cover which doesn't always happen but I'm so glad this does as I need this cover on my bookshelf!
I can't actually pinpoint what the main focus of this cover is as I seem to focus on it all and I love that this cover can do that.
I have seen quite a few covers with people in full on them which I do like but in this cover the whole of the cover is filled with the girl's face. I do like it when covers fill the whole of the cover as I think it looks more intriguing and you seem to notice things more. I love the way that part of her face is covered as the colour of the hair breaks up what would have been a more neutral coloured cover which in some cases work but in this case the added colour makes it stand out.
The main part of the cover that I love is the way it looks like she is crying blood as it's not normal so there for the reader knows something interesting will be happening in this book.
Her eye is very captivating as it looks like she is staring right at us and makes me want to know what she sees which is in keeping with the story.
I love that the title's font has been kept simple as it just wouldn't have looked right, it would've taken the focus of the rest of the cover.
Not everything that is going on in the cover is in keeping with the story but I don't think that it matters in this case as it gives us enough clues to guess what is going to happen.

Teaser Tuesday #29

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

My teasers:

Blood Moon by Alyxandra Harvey

"That little girl is trouble," Madame Veronique said coldly, her voice like an icicle dropping off the roof of a house and impaling you in the head. She grabbed the bat out of the air while we gaped. It squeaked, leather wings frantically beating. Then she released it and stalked away, trailing her silent handmaidens and a disoriented bat smashing its head into the ceiling.
Mom looked bleak but determined.
"Plan B then." - Page 135
I couldn't get into this at first but loads of things have happened to capture my attention.

The man aimed right at him, just ten feet away, and pulled the trigger. Or he tried. - Page 26

Not so sure about this book as it seems there is a bit too much going on.

Book Review: Dreamless (Starcrossed #2)

Dreamless (Starcrossed #2) by Josephine Angelini

(May contain spoilers)

Format: Paperback (arc)
Publisher: Macmillan
Published: 5th July 2012
Pages: 503
Main Characters: Helen, Lucas, Orion
Date Started: 24th June 2012
Date Finished: 28th June 2012
Rating Given: ***

Blurb from Goodreads:

Can true love be forgotten?

As the only Scion who can descend into the Underworld, Helen Hamilton has been given a nearly impossible task. By night she wanders through Hades, trying to stop the endless cycle of revenge that has cursed her family. By day she struggles to overcome the fatigue that is rapidly eroding her sanity. Without Lucas by her side, Helen is not sure she has the strength to go on.

Just as Helen is pushed to her breaking point, a mysterious new Scion comes to her rescue. Funny and brave, Orion shields her from the dangers of the Underworld. But time is running out—a ruthless foe plots against them, and the Furies’ cry for blood is growing louder.

As the ancient Greek world collides with the mortal one, Helen’s sheltered life on Nantucket descends into chaos. But the hardest task of all will be forgetting Lucas Delos.

Josephine Angelini’s compelling saga becomes ever more intricate and spellbinding as an unforgettable love triangle emerges and the eternal cycle of revenge intensifies. Eagerly awaited, this sequel to the internationally bestselling STARCROSSED delivers a gritty, action-packed love story that exceeds expectation.
I kind of liked Starcrossed so when I had the chance to review the second one I thought I would give it a try as everyone says that you should give a series a chance and I'm glad that Macmillan (big thank you to Macmillan for sending me a copy) gave me a copy to review as I did like it.

This cover is very similar to the first cover which I loved but I do this cover isn't as good. The reason why is the people on the cover they just don't look right but that is the only fault I see in this cover. I love the colours on this cover as they look very dramatic and very much in keeping with what is going on within the story.

This is only my second book that I have read that was written by Josephine Angelini and I think it's the second book that she has had published too. What I think Angelini does well in her books is the build up of tension as she did that with the first one and this second one. Although I do like the build up I do feel that it was a bit too slow this time around as it took me a long time to actually get into the book. She is also very good at writing a very addicting series as once I got into this book I really couldn't put it down as I wanted to find out what was going to get thrown at the character's next. I do love her take on the Greek Gods, it's not something I have actually read many of but I do think she does a great job.

Like I said the start of this book was very slow and very confusing as I just didn't know what was going on. I think a part of that reason was because I couldn't remember what went on in the first book although there is a bit of a recap which was very much needed. There was a lot of things happening a few things I thought was predictable but then other things that happened just threw me which I like not being able to guess what is going to happen before it actually happens. The ending was so much better this time around as in Starcrossed I felt it was more of an abrupt ending rather than a cliff-hanger but this time there was a bit of a cliff-hanger which I didn't mind as it has left me wanting more from this series but at least it didn't end abruptly. This book did seem a little depressing with the things that was happening with virtually no light relief but I actually didn't mind this as it made it more entertaining in a way that I never expected.

I liked the characters in the first book and I liked them in this one just as much maybe even more. Helen was just the same as before but this time I did feel like she was thinking about everyone else not caring about the effects it was having on herself. Lucas seemed to be a lot more angrier in this one but I do understand where his anger was coming from. I felt so sorry for Helen and Lucas who obviously love one another but can't do anything about it. We was also introduced to a new character called Orion and I really did like him as he seemed sweet but with an edge. I think we will be seeing more from him and the love triangle that has happened between these three characters in the next book.

Overall this book was a bit confusing to start with and it was also very slow but once you get over those tiny bumps in the road it was a very addicting and entertaining book.
