Blurb from Goodreads:
Bryn knows first-hand that being the alpha of a werewolf pack means making hard decisions, and that being human makes things a thousand times worse. She's prepared to give up her humanity, but the wolf who promised to Change her is waiting - though for what, Bryn doesn't know. Still human, she must take her place in the werewolf Senate, the precarious democracy that rules the North American packs. Standing side by side with werewolves who were ancient long before she was ever born is enough of a challenge, but Bryn soon learns that the Senate has been called to deal with a problem: the kind of problem that involves human bodies, a Rabid werewolf, and memories that Bryn, Chase, and the rest of their pack would rather forget. With bodies stacking up and political pressure closing in from all sides, Bryn and her pack are going to have to turn to old enemies and even older friends for help - especially when it starts to look like this time, the monster might be one of their own.
I was sent this book by the publishers so before I start I just want to thank Quercus for sending me this book as I really enjoyed it.
The cover is slightly different to the first two as the font of the title this one isn't as elegant as the others but it is simply done and it's embossed which I kind of like it's what draws me to some of the covers. I'm not sure if the girl is the same as this is the first time we see her full face. I love the backgrounds in each of the series as they all have different colours but in this the UK cover we don't have the moon which the US one does which is a shame as I liked the metallic look of the cover which made the moon eye-catching I missed that in this one.
I love Jennifer Lynn Barnes writing style as I was able to really get a grip on what Bryn was thinking as well as being able to picture everything as if I was there. I am really looking forward to reading more books from Barnes I am hoping that they will be as good as this one.
I didn't know what to expect with this book as I enjoyed the first one but the second one not so much but I was pleasantly surprised as I found it better than the others. There was so much more going on and I was always kept guessing it was thoroughly entertaining. It seemed like a roller coater ride of emotions for this book because one minute I would be laughing or smiling and the next I would be near to tears I love the fact that I was emotionally attached to this book as it doesn't happen all the time. I was actually tempted to rate it four stars however as the ending I wasn't too happy with but when I thought about it I just couldn't do it as I really enjoyed this book and I couldn't rate it down just because something that I desperately wanted to happen didn't. I am hoping that there will be another one but I'm not sure that there will be as near enough everything was cleared up if not another book in this series Barnes could do a spin-off.
I loved the characters and I truly felt for every single one of them at some point in this book. I must admit that Devon is my favourite character as he is charming, sweet, funny well I could go on describing how I love him but it would take forever. Bryn had a lot to go through throughout this series but even more so in this book and it made her more likable. Chase again we don't get to know who he is all we really know is he will do anything and I mean ANYTHING for Bryn. With Lake we saw a softer side to her and it was nice to see but that's all I'm going to say on her as if I say anything else it would me a major spoiler and I'm not going to do that to you.
Overall a brilliant book that will have you hooked from the very first moment you turn the page right until you turn the last page.
Devon is probably my fave character as well, he is so awesome. This is one of my favorite werewolf series and great review!
