Blurb:
Fifteen-year-old Serena is the youngest member of a dying race. The increasing acidity of the ocean is destroying her home, slowly eating away at the once thriving underwater landscape. But since the night of Serena’s birth, it is an outside force that most threatens their dwindling population. Werewolves, who once served as protectors for mermaids in the Kingdom of the Undine, now seek to eliminate all who dwell in the ocean — and Serena is about to find herself right in the middle of the deadly conflict.
Given the title of Werewolf Liaison, Serena is determined to make things right for her people. When she ventures to The Dry, she meets Liam, the werewolf with hazel eyes, and her whole world gets turned upside down. As Serena discovers the real history between werewolves and mermaids, she is left wondering who her true enemies are.

I received this book from netgalley ages ago and I have only now decided to read it and now I do realise why it had taken me so long.

This is a very pretty cover, I especially love the use of colours. I love that it is also in keeping with the story and that I know what it's about.

It took me such a long time to get into this book as nothing much was happening and the things that did happen left me feeling bored. It wasn't until over half way through when I got into this book but even then it was a continuous love there was still times that left me feeling bored. I really do love the concept of this story and maybe if it was less confusing and more believable then maybe I would have loved it as much as what I thought I would. The paranormal side I loved as I have never read a book that involves just Mermaids and Werewolves it was great to see a different side to these paranormal creatures. The romance side of the story was very much lacking in that department as it just didn't seem real and very much rushed it was like it was a second thought. I kind of liked the ending as it did leave me wanting to know what was going to happen in the next two books but I still didn't feel the love.

I think one of the main reasons why I didn't get on with this book was that I never really warmed to any of the characters as they was all annoying and for the most part selfish. There was a few that I kind of liked but still no love which is very rare for me as I almost always fall in love with one of the male characters but not this time.

Overall there was parts that I kind of enjoyed but for the most part I just couldn't get into it which is such a shame. I don't know if I will read the rest of the series because I would feel like it's a chore to continue but I would like to find out what happens.

Then Sammy begins receiving mysterious notes warning her about that night, urging her to not look back. But she can't let it go. As she starts poking around in her past she begins to remember...and something sinister begins to surface.

I am so thankful to Hodder for sending me a copy of this book for review as I loved every minute of it.

When I first saw that us in the UK have a different cover to America I was gutted as I loved the American version. It wasn't until I read the book that I felt ok with the cover as it is in keeping with the book so much so it looks like it could be a part of a scene in the book.

This book was such a compelling read that even when I flicked to the last page to see what happened (yes I do that) I still thought it was someone else who hurt Sam I was that drawn into it. I haven't read many thriller genres but the couple that I have (including this one) I have loved I should really try more thrillers and I haven't read any of Jennifer's books that wasn't paranormal and I still loved it. I loved everything about this book the way in which we got learn everything the moment Sam learnt something new. I loved all the twists and turns that you will never see coming especially when you find out who did it. Even though there wasn't a huge focus on the romance side but what we did have was so sweet and I just wanted them to be together from the moment they was in the same space. It was great to see that it was also about learning who your true friends are which I thought was a great addition. I felt the ending was perfect in the way it wrapped things up but then still made it believable in the way that not everything was perfect in her life.

I loved most of the characters although not all of them was good. Sam was a great character but she wasn't always that way as before her accident she was completely different and it just goes to show what you can do differently if you had another chance. I loved that you never really know if she is a sane person yet you feel so sorry for her. I also liked that even when things got difficult she never gave up. I absolutely loved Carson he was so understanding and very forgiving and for most part so sweet. Her brother Scott was definitely one of my favourite characters as he was so funny but he also had a caring side and he always looked out for Sammy just like Carson. There was a lot of mean girls in this story who wasn't very nice but that was how Sam was before everything had happened to her. I really didn't like Del he was so annoying and you just know he was lying about his relationship.

Overall if you love Pretty Little Liars this one is for you as it is surrounded in mystery that you will never know what to think.

Waiting on Wednesday #21

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here's this week's book I can't wait for...

The Beautiful Ashes (Broken Destiny, #1)
by Jeaniene Frost

Expected Publication: 26th August 2014

Blurb:
In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who's bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn't mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn't: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between…

I have read a few books by Jeaniene Frost and everyone I have loved so I'm hoping that this one is no different. I think I have heard that it is going to be a New Adult book which is another reason to be looking forward for this one as at the minute I am loving NA.

What's your WOW?

I can't remember getting this book I just know that I have had it on my book shelf for such a long time now, I wish I had never taken so long to read it as I loved it. Although with taking awhile I can now buy the books to finish the series.

My copy is the old international copy which I am a bit gutted about as now the rest of my series won't match. I do like both versions of the cover but I'm not sure which is my favourite as it changes every month. I love the use of colour in this cover as I am a sucker for black and white also what you don't see in the picture is that it has a metallic finish to it making it shiny.

When I first started this book I wasn't sure I was going to like it and that wasn't because of me not liking the story it was mainly to do with the style of writing. In the blurb is how it is written with the strike through's which was very hard not to discard them as they was important to how she was actually feeling but as soon as I got used to that it was easy to read. I loved the slow build up of what was happening which doesn't always happen for me but I was addicted to this book from start to finish even when there wasn't much going on in the beginning. The romance side of the story was also a slow build up but again I loved it and kept thinking when they was going to realise how they felt. There wasn't any major cliff hangers which was good as this book felt like a build up for what is coming next which has got me very excited to find out.

I loved most of the characters and the characters that I didn't like was ones that wasn't actually in the book but we heard a lot about them. Juliette was a great character although at first I thought she was going to be a very weak person but the more the book went on the more she grew into herself. What I liked was that for most part of the book we didn't even know what she looked like and I didn't even realise. I did really like Adam as he seemed sweet, caring and understanding but he felt a little too good to be true. Even though Warner came across as the bad guy I still seemed to really like him as there was some things that made me think about why he is the way he is and he honestly thinks he is doing a good thing. Kenji was one of my favourite characters as he was so funny and I love that in characters.

Overall once I got past the very different writing style I fell in love with the world that Tahereh Mafi created.

BOTM #29

Listing all the books that I read during February I was surprised by how many I read. It's been a mixed bag in February as I have read some amazing books but also a few that I wasn't a huge fan of.
Here's the books that I read in February:

  • Once Upon a Masquerade by Tamara Hughes - 2/5
  • Hourglass (Hourglass, #1) by Myra McEntire - 4.5/5
  • Shattered Promises (Shattered Promises, #1) by Jessica Sorensen - 2/5
  • Smokin' Hot by Lynn LaFleur - 3/5
  • Crazy Stupid Sex by Maisey Yates - 3/5
  • Breathe (Sea Breeze, #1) by Abbi Glines - 5/5
  • Misbehaving by Tiffany Reisz - 4/5
  • Switched by Cassie Mae - 5/5
  • Her Valentine Fantasy by Nancy Warren - 2.5/5
  • Incarnate (Newsoul, #1) by Jodi Meadows - 4.5/5
  • 10 Ways to Handle the Best Man by Heidi Rice - 2/5
  • Fall From Grace (Mad World, #1) by Christine Zolendz - 4.5/5
  • Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi - 5/5
And the book of the month goes to...

This was a hard one to choose and at one point I was thinking of making it a three way tie with my 5/5 books, but once I thought about it it was this one that I couldn't think of any negative thoughts. The other two books there was a tiny part that I could say I didn't like but not this one.
