Follow Friday #8

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. This is a great way to discover new blogs and make new friends! This weeks featured are Lauren Gets Literal and Lalaine's Fiction Book's Corner.

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!

A: Ok so this is quite a hard question and I couldn't think of any until I looked back at books that I didn't give a high rating too, so here are the most common points:
  • Annoying Character's: I just hate it when I don't like the main character's and don't care about what happens to them and in most cases I feel that the story has great potential if it wasn't for the annoying characters. I found this with the Vampire Diaries (book) I hated the characters but loved the story if the character's was more like the TV shows version then this series could have been one of my favourite's. Instead I had to stop reading the series as I just didn't relate with the character's and didn't see the point of continuing.
  • Boring Books: This mainly happens in the longer books as the author puts in a lot of content that I don't think is really needed I just think they can explain things a bit too much. Another way that is boring is when there in nothing really going on and also if something does happen it's still boring. This happened in Entangled as it was so boring I felt like nothing was going on and by the end I didn't care what happened.
  • Abrupt Endings: I don't mind a cliffhanger but when it ends randomly and feel like there should be another couple of page's it really winds me up. This has happened in a few books that all the way through the book I thought this is going to be a 4 or a 5 rating but then because of the abrupt ending I feel I just have to knock the rating down a star or two.

  1. I hate abrupt endings! After dedicating my time to a whole book I do want a good conclusion. I like to know what happened. I don't like it to end leaving you to guess what happens.

  3. Hi there! New follower! I completely agree with the cliffhangers. This is the problem I have with series books sometimes. I feel like each book should be able to stand on its own, not feel like a "to be continued" made for TV movie. In other words, you can just take a story and chop it into three equal pieces to make it three books. Each book needs to be a creation unto itself. It doesn't necessarily mean that all the problems have to be solved, but it means that there needs to be some resolution, not just: go buy the next book to find out what happens next! Anyway, there's my rant. =)

  4. So in agreement about the cliffhangers. I want there to be a satisfying ending whether its happy, sad, or up in the air, but it needs to be done correctly. Old follower.

  6. Thanks for following my blog, I'm following yours back! I completely agree with abrupt endings and boring books! There should always be good action once every other chapter, maybe more often, to keep you hooked!

  8. I agree with you, if it happens I can't read the book. It just happens once for me to not read an entirely book.
