Blurb from Goodreads:

Mia Price is a lightning addict. She’s survived countless strikes, but her craving to connect to the energy in storms endangers her life and the lives of those around her.
Los Angeles, where lightning rarely strikes, is one of the few places Mia feels safe from her addiction. But when an earthquake devastates the city, her haven is transformed into a minefield of chaos and danger. The beaches become massive tent cities. Downtown is a crumbling wasteland, where a traveling party moves to a different empty building each night, the revelers
Mia wants to trust the enigmatic and alluring Jeremy when he promises to protect her, but she fears he isn’t who he claims to be. In the end, the passion and power that brought them together could be their downfall. When the final disaster strikes, Mia must risk unleashing the full horror of her strength to save the people she loves, or lose everything.

I was so pleased that I was accepted to review this book from Random House as this book looked so interesting and different from other books that I have read. I was also pleased that I was sent the version with the final cover copy as it was another reason why I wanted to read this book.

I am fairly new to the Dystopian world and the ones I have read I either love them or hate them. What I love about them all is the fact that they are different to other books and most of them seem original and this one is no different.

It was a good read but I found the beginning was slow and I did get a bit confused to what was actually going on. The beginning seemed more like an aftermath to a natural disaster that had just happened but I would have liked to have had the actual disaster explained rather than the aftermath. Once the first part is over it does get more entertaining as loads of things keep happening which made it a more thrilling book especially the last part when everything kicked off it reminded me of a brilliant film which I think this book would make. Also when things started to get explained everything kind of clicked into place.

Jennifer Bosworth did an amazing job at giving us a visualization of the world that she had created which helped me get through the slow parts.

The characters of this book you never actually knew who you could trust until right near the end. I do like a book where your not quite sure of who to trust as it makes me want to read more and more of the book just to see if any of our instincts where correct. Mia was a strong female character that has been through a lot so when she isn't doing something she shouldn't be doing you can kind of forgive her because we know her history and what she has been through. With Jeremy I never knew were things really stood with him he seemed nice enough but you could tell he had secrets that wasn't the good kind but again we start to learn his history and can then understand where he is coming from.

Overall a really good book that was well written I can't wait to read more from Jennifer Bosworth and the new world that she has created.

  1. Congrats on getting the ARC! Can't wait to read this one when it comes out, so I'm glad to see that you liked it. Yay for strong main characters and characters that keep you guessing! That's always nice. Too bad about it having slow parts though. Thanks for the review!

    P.S. I'm a new follower here! :)

  2. Great review! I really love the cover, quite dramatic. Sounds like it fits well with the book. I'm not sure that I love dystopian (haven't read too many), but will definitely add this to my pile. Thanks :)
